How long do i run my pentair pool pump variable speed

16,

The size of the pool has very little to do with how long to run your pool pump.

I suspect that you are think about having X turnovers a day.. That idea is just a myth and not true at all.

Chemicals keep your pool sanitized and clear.. The filter is just there to capture the stuff that falls into your pool and floats. By the time your filter starts capturing algae, you have already lost the algae war...

You should run your pump for a reason, not a myth..

I run my 3 HP IntelliFlo pump 24/7, mostly at 1200 RPM.. This costs me less than $20 bucks a month. I have a SWCG, so I like making a little chlorine all the time and skimming all the time. I also like to see my pool when the water has a little motion..

Running 24/7 is not for everyone, but it works well for me. Without any proof, I believe that VS pumps last longer if they are not turned on and off each day.

How do you currently chlorinate your pool water?

Speed wise, you want to run as slow as possible and still get the job done. I can run at 1200 RPM because I have no heater.. If you have a heater, you will have to run faster to get you skimmers to work well.. You also might need a faster speed to close the pressure switch in the heater, so you would have a heater speed. If you have a waterfall, you might need a speed that makes the waterfall look the way you want.

The point is, you should run your pump to accomplish some goal.

Tell us more about your pool, pool equipment and water features and we can give you some suggestions..

Also need to know what specific pump you have, and if it is a standalone pump, or if it is being controlled by an automation system.

Thanks

Jim R.
