High Water table, Sump pump required?

Hello everyone,
I have a pool under construction and during excavation there was a lot of water coming up from the ground and my neighbors told me there is a high water table in the community. My neighbor stated you will need a sump pump as they have for their pool and they recently were refinishing their pool and realized the pump had stopped working and there was water all around their pool and the company that was refinishing pool wouldn't complete the work until the pool was completely dry. So they had to replace the pump and it dried up in about 4 days. I told my PB this and he dismissed it saying the pump is not required as once there is water in the pool there is no issue and only if I drain the pool it could be an issue and there is valve in the bottom of the pool that would be opened when the pool is empty to let ground water into the pool when empty. It sounds reasonable but my neighbor is saying I will have major issues with the pump like she did. My PB insists not an issue and he won't even entertain the idea of installing a pump as not needed. Would love some expert advice from this forum. FYI Pool is Gunite. Thank you in advance.

we recommend a sump pit on all vinyl liner pools.. there is nothing stating you can not have a sump pit on a gunite pool.. It is your pool and can install anything you want... it may not be required to have a pump in the pit at all times but you could lower the pump in if or when it was needed..

So, it is not "needed" but could easily be done...

this is how you tell the pool builder..

you: I want a sump pit...

him: blah blah blah blah... I never do it, you name it.. whatever..

you: Thanks for all that information.. so how much is the sump pit going to cost?

him.. blah blah blah... not needed.. but it would cost ????

you: thank you very much.. before the rebar gets put down a sump pit will be installed :)

It will need about 4 to 6 inches of gravel in the bottom of the pool...

Tell him when he builds his own pool he does not need a sump pit... You on the other hand want one and will be installing one... It is only a10 foot section of 10 inch pvc pipe with some holes in it with #57 gravel under the pool and around the pipe...

install a skimmer lid on top of it.. Amazon.com : JSP Manufacturing Aftermarket Skimmer Lid Replacement for Hayward Swimming Pool Skimmer Deck Cover SP1070C SPX1070C (1) : Garden & Outdoor

or order a pour a lid for it :) Home
