My husband was a member on this forum and praised the information shared here. He passed away from esophageal cancer January 18th. I just had our salt water pool opened up. I don't know where to begin. What do I fix first? Total chlorine, free chlorine or pH? Chlorines are low and pH is high. Thank you for any advice. Ronda My husband was @Chuck N, some of you may have interacted with him on here. He was awesome!

Welcome to TFP, Ronda. Very sorry for your loss.

Free chlorine is the important one. You can add bleach or liquid chlorine to jump start it. You’ll also likely need cyanuric acid and salt to get your chlorine generator going.

Thank you so much JohnT. So the pool company who opened my pool put salt in quantity of 4 Aquasalt on the bill, supercharge shock (10), strike out (1) and sodium bicarbonate (17.5). Is there a way to measure the salt level, to determine if I need to add more? Thanks again.

Yes, you can measure the salt. I found Chuck’s account, so I’m reading through some of his info to learn about your pool and equipment.

I’m sure it seems overwhelming, but it’s very simple once you get the basics down.

Ronda- I'm so glad you thought to look us up and remembered Chuck's acct here. I'm so very sorry for your loss, and I am sure the long row y'all went thru dealing with such a miserable form of cancer. You deserve a warm summer and lots of relaxing pool time, remembering Chuck and the good times.
Do you know about the PoolMath app that helps you determine how much of each chemical to use when needed, among many other useful tricks? You can put it on your phone.

If you have any other questions....just holler.

If your existing TF Pro kit did not come with reagents to test for salt, you can order the K1766 kit from tftestkits.net or from Amazon. It is a specific test for salt level.
first look for these 2 reagents in your existing test kit
R-0630
R-0718
These are needed to do a salt test.
