So we are a few weeks away from plaster on our build. Wife put a stop to a pebble finish. We toured a few pools local that were PebbleSheen by pebbletec. She didn't like the roughness of them "she hates our exposed aggregate patio hurts her feet" . So we are now stuck with a traditional plaster. Our plaster company will only do white or grey plaster do to colors modelling. She wants a blue pool I know surroundings will change color of water sometimes. We have blue/teal waterline tile. What I have found is white plaster seams to be clear water especially in a shallow pool Grey seams to be more blue water . Our pool at the deepest is 5'9". Grey looks to be a grey/blue color plaster. They have no grey pools local to look at. From pictures I think I would like grey over white. Help me convince myself and wife to go grey!

Jim Thank You for the pics I know she has a vision of a more tropical blue than that. The white does reflect blue skys well just a lot more clear looking into the pool than I think she wants but she doesn't know. Lol We have a friend with a white plaster pool but its close to 9ft deep and is only really blue in the deep end.

We love our water color with the medium Grey plaster. It is (was) a darker blue then a white plaster. Unfortunately we ended up with a bad install. We have far more than the "normal" expected mottling as well as a fill line, footprints and spalling. The PB is supposed to be re - plastering but seems to be really dragging there feet. Here are some pics.

I've had both. First pool was traditional white marcite plaster. Second was traditional marcite plaster with a dark gray tint - was supposed to be lighter, but I accepted the mistake for a discount - which mottled somewhat over time. The mottling did not bother me. I liked both. White plaster gives the pool a bright light blue look. Medium gray looks, well, blue gray. If you want tropical you may want to think about a blue or turquoise cast - I"m not a fan, but that's the color water you end up with.

If they only do white or grey plaster, surely the company can provide you actual photos of their completed work in both colors.

I do not mind the mottling either and although I have seen Grey colored pools without mottling (very rare in my opinion but it does seem possible if you get the correct installer that uses the correct products and techniques) I would say the mottling on the Grey plaster looks more like marbling and mottling on white plaster just looks like faded white plaster. My mottling just seems to be going to a extreme point and I fear I will soon end up with a "very light" Grey surface.

If you are going with traditional plaster I just feel you need to be able embrace the mottling if it does occur.

We also hated the feel of any pebble surface and simply liked the feel of original plaster. Our salesman did not inform us about the "other ' options with pebble. You can get a polished finish with a pebble finish which gives you the strength and longevity of pebble and the smooth surface of plaster (at greater expense of course). I think you might be getting close to double the money of traditional plaster so you really need to consider if the cost is worth it for you. The PB hires out of the area for plaster. They do both traditional and pebbletec finishes. I have left 3 messages over the last 2 months with no return calls. The PB has only done 1 traditional grey and it isn't easy to line up a viewing and we are set for plaster next week.

I have seen your pics in all of my searching. We are also ok with some modeling. That is nothing like I've seen before. They say they do white and grey with no modeling.

We have grey plaster, with mottling (on the less mottled side of possibilities). The first link below describes the makeup of the plaster (the color of the water in that post is not the true color as the water was a fresh fill and therefore still tinted green). Diamond Bright was used for the colorant. The second link is to show the water color. Steel blue as I refer to it.
