I have a hayward super pump and replaced the ceramic shaft seal about 2 years ago. Just noticed a small leak under the pump housing so I'm guessing it needs replacing again. I have the shaft seal and the impeller seal since I bought them for back up. Is it normal for these to go so often? What causes them to wear?

I didn't use lube and wore gloves to insert the ceramic seal as well as the shaft seal. I actually replaced them today and there's still a small leak from the housing. Considering its 20 plus years old I may just replace the pump housing.What pump seal did you install?

20 years old plastic will not leak unless there is a crack or a way for the water to get out somewhere, so never go by the age.
it looks pretty beat up and the parts are cheap.. at this point i've replaced everything over the years except the actual fiberglass de housing so might as well renew this.
