Pump finally died! super 2 pump started smoking during a major rain storm a week ago.
I posted this question a few years back when I was seriously thinking about replacing it.

But decided to wait, big mistakes. These Hecking pool pumps have doubled in price since that post.
Hayward Super II Pump is a 1.5 HP pump. We have a spa that's above the pool with a single water fall (1 foot wide) and flows into the main pool.
We have a G3 barracuda pool cleaner that's connected directly into the skimmer.
Heres the breakdown to avoid as many questions as possible
1. Our city offers a $400 rebate for any VS pump as long as it's purchased in a store within our city limits. $200 online
2. No one uses our pool, I mean no one for over a decade.
3. We don't use any of the pool equipment except the pump/filter. I don't know if our heater works. I don't know if the spa booster pump works.
Voltage: We have a main break box in front of all the pool equipment that controls the power feed into the pump with a gcfi outlet.
I don't know how to answer the 120v or 240v question. I'm assuming I can take both. But probably 120V?
Automation: Our house is automated, but the pool isn't. But it may be automated one day. The only thing I could think of automating is the pool lights, and I would rather depend on lutron to handle that automation if needed. We have two switch under the power box that controls the lighting for both the pool and spa.
HP: The poolstore rep said the same thing. Since my pump is a 1.5 HP, 2.5 or 3 HP pump would give me better efficiency over a 1.5 HP pump. But the question is how much extra am I going to spend versus the amount of saving i'll get.
Color: I don't give a Darn, seems obsessive to care.
Availability is also a factor it seems even in 2023/24. The pool store recommended two pumps.
011533 @ $1900 Pentair-011533-WhisperFlo-Variable-Speed
022056 @ $2100 IntelliFloXF VSF. But I don't get the $400 discount from the city.
Pool rep kept pushing whisperflow. I kept insist IntelliFlo. He really didn't give me many options. It seems like a slow time of the year, and they don't exactly stock too many pumps.
I need your recommendations.
I want something that works and lasts, is quiet. And If we can save money on our power bill. Great.
Edit: I also want to mention, I don't have an issue trying to find another Super pump 2. And bringing it into California regardless if it's deemed illegal to have one. Heck California and their eco-friendly laws. I'm seriously consider doing that seeing how expensive pumps are now.

hayward 1.5 hp replacement.
Was reading this thread recently: Hayward Super Pump Leaking in front of seal plate I have the kind of issue, tried to use some silicon to seal the leak, but it didn't solve the issue. I've wanted to replace this dinosaur for a while, and now I have my excuse. Just the electricity cost alone...

- Voltage - do you need the pump to run on 120V or 240V?
- Automation - do you care about automation interface now or in the future?
- HP - any VS pump of 1.5 HP or greater will do for you. A larger HP VS pump will be more energy efficient running at a lower HP. So for maximum energy efficiency get a 3 HP pump.
- Color - Pentair pumps come in Pentair almond or black
- Availability - Many pumps are in short supply. Get what you find available.
