Hayward Pro Sand filter freeboard space

I had to empty out the top layer of sand the past few years due to excessive dog hair. I think it’s at a point where it may be effecting my filters efficiency. Does anyone have a chart of spacing for a Hayward Pro sand filter? I’ve found a good chart on the Pentair filters, but not for Hayward.

Hayward does not specify freeboard space. They only gives pounds of sand to add. You just have to take you best eyeball at the fill. Check with your models manual. It should say something like - THE LEVEL OF SAND MUST REMAIN A MIMIMUM OF 10” FROM THE TOP.

"Sand surface should be leveled and should come to about the middle of the filter tank." Break out a tape measure.

Have you considered using Skimmer socks to collect the dog hair and keep it out of your filter?
