Hayward Error Code

Hi, my Heatpro Heat Pump (HP31005T- just over a year old) is showing code E08 on display, wont turn on. I used it all of 2 months after hook up, and of course its getting colder now and its broken. I looked it up in manual and saying its a communication failure between display and controler. Before I call a service company out, wait, then pay up $, was wondering if anyone knew of anything I could check myself? I pulled the cover a few tiny frogs jump out, but nothing has chewed through the wire or anything obvious....looks nice and clean, brand new still.
I shut the power off for a day, started it back up today and the display was showing current temp, thought it was going to work again. The fan turned on, compressor kicked on, then off, then on....then the error again (E08). Both circuit boards inside show a small red LED.

Is there a way to test the controller other than using a replacement board?

Have you tried reseating the cable between the display board and controller (both sides)?

Yes, there is only 1 connector in the middle between the display and the board which I unplugged and replugged a few times. The side that goes to the board is the wire/(push)pin type connection. All wires are secure there.

Those models are the worst. I heard from our Hayward distributors that they are trying to get rid of those models so they have been selling them for a discount. Quite a few problems with them. Displays not working at all. Saying they are heat/cool but not with automation. Inlet outlet unions leaking. I would get Hayward out there to replace the board. I’ve had to do that a few times. Should be under warranty.

Thanks...yeah, good to know. Guess I chose the wrong one. Just in case anyone else ever has to look for a service provider for Hayward warranty, I would suggest calling Hayward direct and get a human on the phone. I used their website at first and no one they had listed services heatpumps (saying have to have hvac license). Wasted a day leaving messages and call backs. When I called Hayward they gave me 3 other #'s to try in the area (Tampa/Clearwater), 1 didnt have hvac license, other didnt service my area. Luckly the last one I called is coming out....at some point.

Yes always call. I’m lucky our company has a rep. I have 2 really good heater techs. 1 for up North and 1 for the southern part of our state.
