Hacks for keeping a chlorine floater from getting stuck somewhere while using one during vacation

Does anyone have any hacks for keeping a round floater full of Trichlor tablets from parking itself in the skimmer mouth, along the steps in the shallow end, in a corner, or next to the ladder? My pool only has one skimmer that is located in the deep end on the opposite side of the deep end return. The ladder is located right next to the skimmer. I tried tying the floater to the ladder and it gets stuck in the ladder or in the skimmer mouth which is located right next to it. If I let the floater go wherever it wants, it gets stuck on the shallow end steps, along the ladder, in a corner, or in the skimmer mouth and it won't move.

Since a stuck floater could cause a bleached out stain in my gelcoat, I don't want to use a floater unless I can find a way to keep it in the deep end but keep it away from the ladder and skimmer. The only thing I have inside the pool to tie a floater to is the ladder and that won't work for the reasons I previously mentioned. On a previous thread, I saw a recommendation for putting the floater inside a pool net and anchoring the pole to the deck, but I worry that I will get a bleached out stain in my pool if I do that since the floater will stay in the same spot for 4 days and the pump will only be running 10 hours a day. If anyone has any other suggestions on how to keep a floater in the deep end but away from the skimmer and ladder, I'd love to hear your suggestions. CYA is only 30 so I'd like to use chlorine tablets to increase the CYA and add chlorine at the same so I don't have to ask anyone to come over every day to add chlorine. I'm only going to be gone 4-5 days and plan on getting the pool up to SLAM level before leaving.

Tie a rope to it, attach a rock to the rope, and anchor it in the middle.
Are you suggesting that I put this rock on the deck next to the edge of the pool? When the pump turns off for the evening, will the floater gravitate towards the wall and park itself there? I don't want the floater to park itself in one place over night when the pump isn't running because I worry about getting a bleached out stain in the gelcoat.

No - Put the rock on the bottom of the pool in the center.

Similar, but I just went to my fishing gear, got an 8 oz. bullet weight sinker and about 5 feet of line. I anchored the floater in a flat area as near to the center of the pool as I could and never worried about where the floater was again.

Now that I have a chlorine pump, I never worry about where the floater is, either. I think it is on a shelf in the Tiki Bar...

I attach my floater to string and place it under an umbrella base. Keeps the floater away from the steps and in/near a return.
I've got a heavy iron pool chair next to the deep end which is located in the same side of the pool as the return. I thought about tying the floater to that heavy chair but I worry that it could come untied during a thunderstorm and the floater will get stuck in the skimmer mouth.

Tie a knot.
