Grey Clay/ Black Clay Issue

My builder states I need to install pilings or treat the clays with chemicals. The concern is that they clays can absorb waters and cause shifting leveling issues. So it adds, of course, additional 2-3k to the price. Just a gut check, am I being wrung out for cash or is this a legitimate concern/ risk I should pay to mitigate?

Welcome to TFP :)

It is a legit concern... Clay can move A LOT, sometimes up to feet and it will ruin a pool fast... Your area gets the clay injections all the time exactly for this reason... We have some clay up here in OK and in the summer when it dries out the ground will open up a foot or more sideways and have a hole 12 to 36 inches deep, then when it rains the hole closes back up, its crazzzy what clay will do.. The injections stop the clay from being clay somehow someway... You notice a website theme below, they are all companies around your area...

The local inspector would have to be there when they did it, how would they now anything about it.. They are not there to inspect the clay, they are there to inspect the electrical, the rebar, the bonding and things like that...
