Good test kit to buy from a store

Howdy folks I am new to the site and have already realized I have been going about things the wrong way with test strips and advice from the pool store. So I'm looking to get options on a good test kit that I can buy at the local store so I can get my numbers to you all sooner so that my pool gets were it needs to be.

there are only two test kits that are recommended. See this chart:

Pool School - Test Kits Compared

You might find a Taylor K2006 locally but it's pretty unlikely. Leslie's has a private branded version of the same kit as the Leslie's 81329. TFtestkits has very fast shipping and their TF-100 is a better value. If you have an algae bloom you should consider the XL option. You can order here:

We usually just suggest that you order a test kit, and while waiting stop using any chlorine tablets, powders or other chemicals. Add only regular laundry bleach (8.25%), one gallon per day, until we get good test numbers to work with.

Hello and Welcome to TFP!

I highly recommend the TF-100 from TFtestkits.net.
It is a top-of-the-line test kit but well worth the money. You'll probably get that money back the first time you go shopping for chemicals because you didn't spend it at the pool store.
If you become a supporting member of this TFP forum, you get a discount on the test kit.

Welcome to TFP!

I understand what you are saying, and really do applaud you on your desire to get right to it. Usually we are faced with "I will look in to those kits" situation that never resolves itself so it always nice to see someone who really does understand the importance. That said, it really is worth the extra day or two wait to get the TF-100. Yes, you might be able to find a k-2006 locally or online, but there are no guarantees on how old it is (sadly they tend to gather dust at pool stores with people going for cheaper options) and online there are questions of customer service that you don't have to question with TFT. So, most importantly is that you get the proper kit, no question, but I personally say it is worth the minor wait to make that kit the TF-100.

Whichever option you choose, welcome again to the forum and we look forward to helping you!
