I thought I was getting such a deal finding a used Hayward pool heater for $250. Thousands of dollars later, after digging 7' deep and having a plumber T off the 2" main line and installing a larger gas meter I am ready to take advantage of the wonderful savings haha.
My question is, do I need a gas pressure regulator between the new 1.5" ( Which will be reduced even further to fit the heater) gas line and the heater?
The gas company guy said that I now have 8 cubic feet of gas pressure now and the heater has an internal regulator which will reduce it down to 5 ft³ or PSI whatever however that works. The plumber doesn't know and he thinks I should install a regulator. Those regulators are almost impossible to come by with the pandemic and the supply chain. It could be months and a lot of hassle. I would just like to hook the gas directly to the heater and call it good but am I little cautious. Should I be?
