Opened the pool to dark greenish brown water. PH 7, CYA 40, FC 0. My SLAM target is 16. The water is so murky, I can't see the bottom, so I've just been scrubbing the sides, ladders and steps and back washed 3 times. My PSI has stayed steady at 9 - 10 PSI. My pool looks like someone used a foam cannon on it! After using 2 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine every 2-3 hours it is now light green, but I still can't see the bottom. I went to the forum on (Foam in the pool), and read it, so maybe I just need to keep the SLAM going and hope it goes away. I haven't used anything at all in it except liquid Chlorine 10%. The highest I got my FC to yesterday was 6. The FC was 5 before adding anything this morning.

Today, so far, I have added 5 gallons of liquid chlorine. Usually, when the pool people open my pool, they throw in about 3 bags of shock, no matter what time of day it is. I haven't let them put any in the last 2 years.

I went and got more liquid chlorine this morning and picked up a box of HTH Cal Hypo Shock. I am afraid to use it, but I need to see the bottom of my pool. Just checked the FC and it has dropped to 8. Do you think I can add the Hypo Shock tonight?Foamy pool 1.jpg

That's the slam at work. (y)

Along with the foam, mine smelled like low tide and in all my years on the docks and in the creeks, it never dawned on me that the salty cesspool smell was the algae drying out. I just thought it was the mud and muck exposed at the shores but I had neither exposed at the pool.

The cal-hypo causes cloudiness for a while when used in large batches. It's ok as long as your CH can handle it.
