Hello everyone,
Background- I am a first time pool owner and very excited. My 8 yr old son can swim. Me and my wife and my 4 yr old girl have started swim lessons. I bought my home last year and decided not to open the pool since we did not know Swiming.

When I opened this year, I had to drain and acid clean. Pool guys told that my plaster is in last stages and so I went ahead and did the replaster. Because of the new plaster, I have to wait 14 days before I can start using this.

While I am waiting, what safety equipments are recommended to keep since its 9 ft deep on one end and we barely know Swiming. I can float on the other end which is about 4ft.
I ordered some vests from amazon and found that they were type III which is for boating and experienced swimmers. I am not able to find type I anywhere.

Any help appreciated and sorry for the long post.

Welcome to TFP! Pool safety is certainly a priority. I believe you may find there are different rules based on state or certain municipalities as to required safety equipment or hardware. The most common one is usually fencing to isolate the pool. The fence has to be a certain height (48" maybe?), have latches/locks that prevent a child from entering, etc. Once in the pool, it's always important that new swimmers have a way to egress safely or some way to ensure they can stay afloat. I won't pretend to know all of those methods, but at least you did get vests and are pursuing swim lessons. Enjoy! :swim:

Honestly I’d feel pretty nervous about letting your kids swim until you and/or your wife are more confident swimmers.

I can just imagine a situation where your four year old manages to slip out of her life jacket and winds up on the bottom of the pool and neither you nor your wife are able to swim down to save her.

I know you want to get in and get swimming as soon as possible, but I think swimming lessons are really the priority here.

Since three out of four of you can't swim, you should probably have a life hook attached to a pole available at all times. A couple throw-able life rings wouldn't hurt either.
