Hi everyone. Just got into our first house and it has pool. Pretty much only looked at houses with pools despite some friends and family urging us not to take on a pool. The plaster was shot but we were able to get the sellers to issue a credit for that as the plaster had black mold which is a health hazard. The pool started going green right before we moved in and I didn't want to waste time or money bringing it back to blue since it was going to be demo'd soon. After two weeks in the house the pool just got demo'd yesterday. Today they are changing the single drain to a split drain, setting up a Pentair Intellibright Architectural series light, and doing the electrical on a Pentair Colorsync controller. Next up is new tile and flagstone coping repair. Then its time for resurfacing. For Tile we chose 6x6 Key West Cool Waves from NPT. For finish we are going with Pebbletec's PebbleSheen in Cool Blue. I got a number of quotes from Stonescape installers as well as both the certified pebbletec contractors in the county. The contractor we chose was very fairly priced and even came in lower than the Stonescape bids. We wanted to have luminous blue glass beads added but our contractor quoted $1700 to add a bag to each batch which is more than we care to spend. Currently deciding weather or not to pony up an extra $900 for a bag of shimmering sea (abalone and mother of pearl sea shell) to be mixed into each batch. Cool blue already has shimmering sea in the mix but the extra will give it more sparkle.

I look forward to using this site to learn about pool maintenance so the pool never looks like the first picture again. The equipment is old but good quality. Pentair gear with a hayward DE filter. I will budget for replacement in the future. Also planning to add a salt water generator sometime after the first 90 days.

Tile and coping are all finished. We ended up having the flagstone coping replaced with Verona Marble. Nearly all the flagstone coping pieces would have had to be lifted and reset. Made more sense financially to replace with new material. Resurfacing will be done tomorrow. Acid wash and fill on Saturday. I must say the tile looks amazing. It looks even better in person than it does in photograph. Such an interesting and brilliant shade of tealish blue.
