Filling concrete void?

Hello All,
Can anyone recommend a DIY method for filling concrete voids? We have a concrete deck that surrounds our swimming pool and the earth has settled about 4in under it; from about the middle of the deck towards the pool wall.

A pool contractor says this is quite common. The outer half of the deck is held up by the earth while the inner half is being supported by the pool walls and a concrete collar.

I have cut out several squares (1ft x 1ft) in the concrete and can wash in sand but will this be sufficient because there is really no way of packing it? The foam approach seems excellent but I imagine entirely to costly.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ralph

Look for a local company that does foundation work or sidewalk/driveway repair. Mud jacking is used to lift sunken areas of concrete, so they should be able to inject mud under there before the deck cracks.

We’ve had that done twice so far (2012 and 2018).

where is the earth settling to if you have done it twice? usually it settles to a point and if you jack it it holds long term, 6 years apart is alot of time to settle that would concern me. especially with a steel wall pool, you want more than the pool wall holding it up, thats why alot of PB use 4"pipe and fill with concrete when they pour the collar for deck support

That’s a good question. We don’t know if it’s normal settling, or maybe from moles digging under there?

Our pool has polymer walls which can hold water without backfill support, so that hasn’t been an issue.
