I hate the new style double intake lines on my 18’ intex. I installed a hanging skimmer and there is not enough suction to pull the smallest of leaves to the bottom of the basket. I have a brand new 1600gpm pump and sand filter. Would a larger pump mean the end of my discontent? I also have the intex pool bottom cleaner and a bit more power would be great for that as well.

Although I only need ONE of the last items.
I CAREFULLY cut out the little rubber nipples that are MEANT to be the suction fittings, and installed the REAL bulkheads.
I then proceeded to install 2 of the winter plug-offs in the center hole, one on the inside, the other in the outside. (saving it for a purpose as of yet unknown)
I then plumbed my pool using regular PVC fittings, and 1 1/2" hoses.
I also have the Intex Pressure side cleaner, and found that I could warm the hose end in hot water, then force it onto a regular 1 1/2 barbed fitting, thereby deleting the propitiatory Intex connection.
I use the Intex Over the wall type skimmer, and have never had a problem with it. I find that I can run my water levels higher than if I had put a through-the -wall type skimmer in.

That sounds like a definite improvement. I purchased an over the wall skimmer. The debris floats into it and right back out. Would you perhaps have pictures to share your setup? Thanks!
I plugged one of the intakes. I had bought a new pump and filter (the one with the pool was undersized) and then changed the other intake and output to the larger 1 1/2 fittings/hoses. My over the wall skimmer works well with the changes.
This shows my suction side fitting on the right, and the 2nd one that I plugged off on the left. Tucked behind the filter, you can see the return. (That one did not need cutting.)
On top of the water is the hose for Zippy, my Intex cleaner doing his job on the bottom.
This is how I did the fitting on the inside of the pool for the over the wall skimmer.
The 90 is a "street 90" that I got from Lowes (What do you know... the REAL pool fittings use STANDARD plumbing threads!).
From there, I have one of the barbed hose fittings.
As you can see, the suction is PLENTY for the skimmer to work perfectly, even on LOW.
This is the other barbed fitting (That I have Zippy on the other end of the hose of).
I heated the hose in hot water, and pushed it onto the barb
