Do I need a metal sequestering agent

I just did my first drain / refill. Per my dealer's instuctions, I added Leisure Time Metal Gon while filling.

Once filled, I balanced the water as follows:

1. Started with Alkalinity, which read 70 so I added some Leisure Time Alkalinity Increaser to get it to 100 (good).

2. After a few hours, checked pH read which read 7.5 (good)

3. Check Calcium which read 80 (low) so added Leisure Time Calcium Booster. Calcium now reads 200 (good)

All seems to have gone well, but I do have one quick question.

I prefer not to add chemicals unnecessarily. I'm wondering if I really need the metal sequestering agent (Leisure Time Metal Gon). For context, I am on city water, and I used a filter attached to my hose when I refilled. Is there a test I can do or some way of knowing whether or not I really need to add this product?

Well, you wouldn't need it if you weren't using the Frog system which contains metals.

I use a small SWG for hot tubs. Works a charm!

Others just use bleach--> How do I use Chlorine in my Spa (or pool)?)

Next time you're out of "Alkalinity Increaser" just use baking soda. That's all that is, honest!

I thought the metal sequestering agent was to deal with metals you are introducing from the refill water, not from metals from the Spa Frog system. Otherwise, what's the purpose of the Spa Frog minerals if you're just going to sequester them?

Metal sequesters do not remove metal from the water. They just help keep it in solution. If it comes out of solution it can cause staining.

Well, most of us would suggest that it does not make sense to use a system that is intentionally adding metal to your water which can cause staining, green hair, etc.

All they do is help prevent algae, which is an early warning sign that your water may not be safe because of inadequate sanitizer in the water to prevent disease transmittal.

Understood. Since I am new to hot tub ownership, I must admit I bought into the marketing hype of the In-Line Spa Frog system. Once my existing bromine and mineral cartridges run out, my plan is to convert to the three-step bromine system and save myself a bunch of money.

So.....Circling back to my original question:

Assuming I stop using the Spa Frog mineral system and switch to the 3-step Bromine system, and I use a water filter when filling the tub, can I forego the metal sequestering product?
