DIY vinyl liner

Hello- we are building a 14x28 vinyl liner pool - we subcontracted the dig, and subcontracting backfill and concrete and electric. It is steel walls, polymer steps .
My guy doing the backfill says I need 6 tandem truck loads of sand - that’s like 4000? I didn’t include that in my budget lol! Is that correct or am I missing something ?

What will be under the sand?

Liner pool floors typically have vermiculite as their base or mix of vermiculite and dry concrete or just some dry concrete.

What is the sand for? to backfill the dig? Not the best choice.

he uses it as backfill but with that amount he must be spreading it while he grades. The quote I got for that amount of sand was 4000! So I ended up calling another guy and he is going to backfill with 57 gravel and fine grade the rest of the area for me .

We are doing the pool floor ourselves - sand and cement mix but the sand he was wanting us to get wasn’t for that !
