Hi all,
Greetings and Happy New Year from Adelaide, South Australia! Posting here as there are a lot of good threads on the issues that crop up with the Dolphin S200.

I’ve had mine for 4 years and just in the past two weeks it’s had issues. It started with getting stuck down the deep end trying to climb the walls and has now progressed to not getting past the start up procedure in the water at all.

A week ago I opened it up and cleared some rubbish from the impeller. That helped temporarily but the issues persisted and now it can’t get past the startup procedure. Filter baskets are clean. No other leaf litter stuck in the robot.

When I run it upside down out of the water it progresses further than the startup procedure but the left regularly skips. Could this mean a misshapen axle or gear? If so, I imagine this is terminal.

I haven’t opened the motor or anything like that and to be honest, don’t have the time nor patience to gradually test and replace components. The more I read about people who have done this, it never seems to be a permanent fix and the robot dies soon after anyway.

I’ll take it into my local pool shop tomorrow to diagnose just in case I’m missing something.

Keen on ordering a replacement though but would like to get something other than a dolphin this time.

The Aiper Scuba S1 pro is on a big Boxing Day sale here until tomorrow and the marketing is aggressive. But most things I read suggest it’s decent (and comes in less than half the price of a new Dolphin S250 or equivalent).

Thoughts on just buying a new Aiper before the end of the sale tomorrow? Any other good robots to compare to?

Thanks in advance!

If it doesn't get past the startup sequence, it could be an impeller motor issue. When the brushes go bad, it tends to do that. There are some kits on ebay that can be used to rebuild the motor but before doing that, see below regarding the wheel hubs.

This type of cleaner uses hydraulic bearings, basically two pieces of plastic separated by water, which wears out over time so the wheel hubs and bearings occasionally need replacement.
