Converting Summer Waves / Intex to standard 1.5' Return Fittings For Accessories

Hey everyone, a bit new to the forums. Have been reading a ton, and have learned how to manage a pool quite well because of it. However, the time has come for me to contribute my own bit of information.

As of lately I have come across a lot of people saying that their Intex Pool / or Summer Waves Pool / or quite frankly any other style of "Walmart Pool" that doesn't have the correct return fittings to adapt to,

A.) Either a larger pump / Filter System
B.) Any "accessory" that may use the port of a standard 1.5" pool return. (In my case, a sprayer bar to cool the pool / have fun with)

Firstly and foremost, most of these types of pools when you receive them have a 1.25" return fitting that is used. And therefore the hole in the vinyl liner is too small to use a larger return fitting, so it needs to be cut. (Don't Panic!) This is super, super easy to do. I thought it was going to be much harder than it was. Obviously you are going to need to drain your pool below the return fitting as if you take it out, you are going to have a lot of water coming out. So drain your pool a bit. Secondly. Pull out the old return fitting. You should be left with a perfectly circle hole. Now just a word for this particular conversion you are going to need to get an adapter from Amazon. Or in other words your new pool return fitting. Which can be found here.

https://www.amazon.com/Hayward-SP10...ie=UTF8&qid=1497627205&sr=8-1&keywords=sp1023

Now depending on whether or not you want a slip fitting or an FIP fitting with threads on the inside will decide weather you need the part number "SP1023" or "SP1023S" which the (S) is for slip.

Once you receive your return fitting in the mail you can take off the nut and all rubber washers on the back and place it against your pool liner where the other hole was, and trace around the fitting with a black magic marker. Make sure to keep the fitting centered over the other hole. As you want to make sure you stay withing the "Doubled Up" or "Reinforced Area" of the return fitting hole.

Now you want to make sure you use an Exacto Knife with a brand new blade, and slowly cut around on the outside of the line you traced. Use both hands as it will allow you to stay more stable. And slowly cut around the circle. Be careful not to make it to big or to small. If you follow the outside of the line it will fit perfectly. Do not worry, you got this!.

Once done your new fitting will fit perfectly in the new larger hole that you have created. Aka, a 1.5" return fitting yay! But were not done yet. What about converting my already existing 1.25" piping to the new return?

I have included a few pictures below illustrating exactly what has been used to make this happen.

The small 1.25" elbow adapter on the far left of the above picture is what i had to convert to.

This is the return fitting with the link above from Amazon. This is where the magic happens!

Above is the reducer bushing needed to reduce from the 1.5" return fitting over to your existing 1.25" elbow that the pool manufacturers think you should be using :D.

And to finalize the build here is everything put together without going through the pool just so you can get an idea of what the conversion looks like with my spray bar.

I sure hope this helps a few people understand how they are supposed to convert from 1.25" inch to standard 1.5" return fittings. Many hours of research went into this for me to make sure it was as clean and low profile as possible. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. It was an easy conversion. However, now i can use any pump, or any accessory that I would like. Happy Swimming!
