Coleman above ground pool questions

We recently purchased a colemen above ground pool from walmart (impulse buy) and now I have questions. First of all it's the brown wicker looking pool with windows (jeez, I hope it's worth it). We needed to clean the bottom so I ordered a pool hose and scrubber...whadya know, it doesn't fit my pool connection. Anyway, I've heard people talk about skimmers and sand pumps/ salt pools but they're all for Intex and they have a different setup. Does anyone have this pool and what did you do? I'm at a loss right now. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I'm not personally familiar with the wicker-type pool you have, perhaps someone else will reply. But without a doubt, if you just filled it, make sure you have the proper test kit - either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit (link below). Don't wait. Cloudiness and algae will begin before you know it. Make sure to review our ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and save all those Vital Links below in my signature. They'll come in handy believe me.

New water must have:
- CYA (stabilizer) - min of 30, probably more in FL. See our [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]
- FC (Free Chlorine) - regular bleach can be used and keep it in the 4-6 range (only 3 on day one though)
- Keep the pH in the mid 7s.

We have the same pool this year... the connections are the same as Intex. We have added the Hayward Skimmer, sand filter, and salt generator. The process for the skimmer was the same as with our Intex pool previous years.

Another option that works well for cleaning the bottom of the pool are the rechargeable handheld vacuums if you are not wanting to jump into the skimmer idea just yet:

We have both and both work very well, and will pick up large and very fine debris.

So far we are very happy with the quality of this Coleman pool, as the newer Intex ones are greatly declined in quality over the first one we purchased 7 years ago.

We purchased this pool on June 2nd. Yesterday, we fell victim to the window leak issue that everyone is having with them. I’m currently waiting for it to drain down enough to try sealing with the Locktite Marine sealant. We were able to pull up our receipt and submit everything to the manufacturer for a new liner under warranty.

We purchased a rechargeable handheld vacuum and it’s done well picking up small leaves and dirt.
