Clean and clear 320 cartridge filter clamp won’t budge

I’ve searched, but I can’t seem to find my exact issue, it seems like most of the time the spring and brass part that screw onto the clamp are the issue, but I can screw them off no problem and I can screw them back on no problem and they hold. This is my first time trying to remove the clamp from the filter housing this year and with the nut off the clamp it’s still locked in position. I’ve tried to wiggle it. I’ve tried to shake the top. I’ve sprayed silicone all around it, I can’t get it to move. Any thoughts? I even turned the pump on briefly with the gauge up top open to see if a little bit of pressure would make it move, it didn’t. Thank you in advance!

T,

Just to make sure...

You've open the air relief valve and drained the filter via the drain plug, or at least let water drain out through the pump...

I usually use a pry bar and just pull the band away from the filter itself...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you for your reply, yes, I have done both of those things, and I was afraid to pry the clamp off because I didn’t know how sturdy the top was, do you think I can do that without damaging the top? Any precautions?

T,

When I say 'pry', I am not talking about a lot of force.. Maybe 'nudge' would be a better word..

I have done that with every filter I have ever had, without any issues..

I use a pry bar like you use to pull nails out of wood... About a foot or so long.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It's the same one that I coax the band back on with as I'm trying to squeeze the top to the bottom.
TFH,

That is exactly what I do when putting the filter back together... I can't see it working well without a few whacks with a rubber mallet.

Then I tighten the bolt until it squeals like a stuck pig... I always wonder what my neighbors think when I'm doing that...

Thank you for all the replies, we’ve had a lot of bad weather so now I’m back to messing with this pool filter and I followed everybody’s advice with the shims and I got the band to move away from the filter housing but it still won’t budge. In the second picture, you see that part of the band looks to be flaring out into the threads and that seems to be what (I think) is holding it up from moving. I’m considering trying to cut off that flared part with a hacksaw enough where if I hit the band, it may finally move past that part of the screw shaft. Does that sound like the best course of action? TIA!
