I am told that these exist, but I cannot seem to locate them.

I have been using the Clorox brand, Leslie brand or Costco Brand. It has been hard to find any 3" in my area consistently.

There are Cal Hypo tablets. You need a special feeder system to use them properly.

Be ware the brands of pucks you listed can have copper in them. Be sure the word 'Blue' is not in the product name.

There are cal hypo tabs that do not have CYA. They are more specifically made for aerobic septic system chlorinators, and work with chlorinator tubes for that purpose, but they don't dissolve very well. Swell and gum up chlorinators, mostly the problem. Even for these systems, liquid chlorine is the best method. Mixing them with your di/tri chlor and feeder can create a very dangerous situation, so best to leave them be.

Thanks Guys, I will look out for the word blue in these pucks and I will most likely switch to salt but I feel I have too much to learn to make more changes at this time.

As you learn more about the methods used here, you will eventually find that it's near impossible to maintain your pool TFP suggested and use pucks for any appreciable amount for chlorination. The CYA builds way fast.

I guess I will have to move to a SWG then. This is a weekend home and I am not there M-F.

Is there another way ?

I do have a friend out there adding tablets once a week and 2x if its really hot.

If using pucks, you need to test the CYA every two weeks. When the CYA gets to 60 ppm, you drain half of the pool volume and refill with fresh water. Test FC every day or two and add liquid chlorine or cal hypo as needed to keep FC in target range for the CYA.

If you cannot be there, then a SWCG is the best way to manage the FC levels, by far.

If I went to a SWG, what changes in the pool chemistry world. I know chlorine pools, and am a newbie learning the TFP method.

SWCG just creates the chlorine. Nothing changes but how the chlorine is added to the pool.

You need to manage pH as the pucks are very acidic so they have been adding the acid you may need to add if you use a SWCG.

One thing, you will be adding CYA to your current level only as needed, AND, you will be maintaining/adding CYA at cost in multiples less than the CYA you are adding via pucks. If your acid demand goes up, that too might be managed at intervals when you are there. Your friend will have far less to do, if anything.
