I have had such an easy time this year and last with all my chemicals easily falling into place that I guess I got lazy. Today I discovered that my CYA was lower than I thought (pool store had been out of stabilizer for a couple weeks). It was 40. But I also discovered that my free chlorine was 1.84 and my total chlorine was 2.29. I ran to the pool store to finally buy some CYA and they told me I also needed to add a bag of calcium hypochlorite to correct the high total chlorine count and it would all be fine. I have never used this before. I always follow the rules about SLAMming and overnight testing. But I did add this. It raised the FC to 11. I was confused whether I should stop like they said. But I decided to add (old) bleach that I had which raised it to 14. Now 4 hours later it is back to (or still at) 11. My testing shows no signs of CC... clear test water. So now that everything seems to be fine (once the FC comes down), do you think I still need to do the overnight test? Thank you a million times over.
