Can I get some thoughts on this estimate?

Hello all,

I met with a pool builder to get a rough estimate.

Of 4 different builders I have called in the area, this is the only one which followed through with sending me anything. (only 2 have returned my call in 3 weeks) Area is Terre Haute, IN

While I know this is just a rough estimate with nothing specific, can anyone tell me if this is in the ballpark price-wise?

While onsite we discussed more specifics and I would get those things in writing before proceeding.

I've had houses with pools before but I've never had one built.

I'm considering having them build the pool and doing the pavers and SWCG myself, to bring the price down some.

What kind of pool? Liner? Plaster? Fiberglass? I think the pool price is ok but for sure I would do the pavers part myself. What is the "tanning deck"? Is that just a pool deck extension or is this underwater?

Nah his wording is just off
it's 16x32, with a 16ft wide 'tanning deck' is what he called it. If there is a better name, let me know.

No drawing yet - the builder and I walked it through onsite and I painted some lines on the ground where the pool would go.
Felt to me like he wanted to get an estimate in my hands so I could decide if I want to move forward from there.

Ah ok generally these are called "sun decks" but tanning deck is good too. So 1/2 the pool is a shallow tanning/sun deck and only a 16'x16' swimming area? How deep is the pool?

This is my 42'x22' with sundeck.

Thank you for clearing that up for me

The sun deck size is 16 wide by 8ft, then a step down, then the pool slopes to a depth of 54 inches with no deep end (still discussing final depth.

Side note: Thanks for the discussion. It is helping me to think through everything. When I try to talk to my girlfriend about it all she can say is "Yes, do that!"
 
Other things you want to ask about:

Specific equipment list (name/model #)
Heater?
# of skimmers
Main drain?
# of returns
Vacuum port or will you use a robot?
Do you require a perimeter safety fence (code)?
try to get a fixed price for extra decking

No heater
1 skimmer
No main
Haven't discussed # of returns or vac port
Perimeter fence not required - will have 6 ft privacy fence at property line
