So I got a used above ground pool and installed it myself it's been alot of work and now that I had it up and running a couple of months the sand filter went out so I ordered a new one and the pump that came with it is different it has a grounding lug on top of it and as I researched this I find I must run a 8 gage copper wire arround the entire pool attaching it to 4 different uprights, a grounding rod then back to the lug on top of the pool the problem is the pool is full of water 20,000 gallons so how am I supposed to get behind 4 of the uprights to bolt on the grounding lugs and get them tight????

First, welcome to the forum.

If it were me, the first thing I would do is to read your local codes for pool bonding and pool grounding, before I would do anything. Many places do not require bonding for above ground pools with depths 48" or lower, some areas do not require bonding at all on above ground pools.

Second, you mention a ground rod, understand, there is bonding, which just electrically connect all the parts around pool, so that they all have the same electrical potential (electricity flows from higher potential to lower potential and everything on the earth has an electrical potential), then there is grounding, which gives electricity a clear path to ground, this is to provide a path for electrical faults, so that the breaker will trip sooner, grounds usually require a ground rod.

I would follow the regulations for your area, as to what is required for either/both bonding and grounding.

One more thing, even if your codes do not require bonding, if you are experiencing any tingle or shock around the pool, I would bond the pool and equipment.
