Blank slate/Pool build in Maryland

I opened the pool yesterday thinking it was a good time to do so. I think I opened a week or two late because it was a bit green and there were literally millions of frog eggs everywhere. Four gallons of 10% chlorine and 4-5 runs of my Dolphin robot and we’re making good progress. There is still a ways to go with pH (hardware store closed today!) and clarity to be a true TFP but I’m almost there. I even impressed my family this morning when everybody looked out and saw the pool was “a lot clearer!” I think I have another day or two of SLAMing and running the single speed pump 24 hours and we’ll be in good shape.

I forgot to mention my wife talked me out of a SWG since I’ve been working from home and we had no trouble getting chlorine last year and I stocked up on 15 bottles at Walmart last week. Her logic made sense and I have more time to deal with the pool without my 2.5 hour commute each day.

...and then I asked her to pick up some more chlorine at Walmart yesterday. ? She looked all over the entire store couldn’t find a single gallon and then gave up on buying anything the line was so long.

I’ll be ordering an RJ45 Plus and associated plumbing supplies this week.

Just realized I hadn't posted any updates this year. I opened the pool on April 7th and it cleared up quicker than last year so I will continue to do that in future years. I had planned to add a SWG this year, had it in my cart on Discount Salt Pool for around $1100 but decided to wait on ordering it a few days until I could get the installation material (pipes, glue, elbows, etc.) and did so that weekend. Unfortunately the price went up to $1300 and I was having no issues getting chlorine so I decided it wasn't worth it. I can go almost 700 pool open days worth of liquid chlorine for that amount of money. Now I'm having real difficulty getting chlorine and can't find it anywhere and went back to Discount Salt Pool's site and I see it's now $1390. It seems unlikely I will ever buy this and may just have to start using the crappy tablet chlorinator.

In other news, I had a very large tree fall on my fence the other day. It did some damage to the fence but luckily missed the pool. When the tree cutters come I am having them thin out another tree that would take out more of my fence and probably fall on the waterfall and into the pool if it were to come down.

Actually we were home! We had just come back from a few days vacation and got in the pool that night. I also walked the dog around the pool at around 10:45 PM right near where it fell. We woke up to that sight, never even heard it overnight when it must’ve fallen. Interestingly there were severe thunderstorms while we were gone yet it fell on a night with no rain or wind. Very strange!
