Hi! We have an inground pool with no other drain except the skimmer. Is it safe on the equipment if we use an automatic pool cleaner that hooks up to the skimmer?
If so, any recommendations to purchase or avoid?

Do you have just the 1 skimmer?
There is no harm to the pool equipment because it is acting like a normal skimmer - it is just picking up from the cleaner end.
However what you do lose is the skimming action while the cleaner is in the pool.
You would be a good candidate for robot cleaner - with either a cord or a cordless. There are many to select from.

D&J,

Do you plan to use the new cleaner all the time, or just only use it when the pool is dirty?

You really don't want to shut off your skimmer for long periods of time..

Here is a different style of cleaner for you to look at..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, we have just the one skimmer. We used to have a Maytronics Dolphin. It quit working after only 2 years and we were not able to repair it or find anyone who could.
So I’ve been manually vacuuming for years, but I’m really ready for an automatic or a robot again. I’m just hesitant to spend the money on a robot again if it’s only going to last a few years.

D&J,

Totally understand.. Unfortunately, I think that 4 years is about the average lifespan of current robots.

I look at a robot the same way I look at my salt cell.. Something to use up and then replace. A consumable..

For me, it is worth $200 bucks a year so that I do not have to manually vacuum my pool, for many others, it is not.. Everyone is different. :)

Thanks,

Jim R.

I edited my reply - because I went back and looked and saw that it only made it for two years. Anyway, we'll just have to decide whether or not to bite the bullet again, and how big a bite to take. haha
Thanks!

Look at this review. I have this same cordless robot. I got it for under $500 when it was on sale. It just over that now.
The only draw back is that some with very deep ends have commented it will not crawl up the incline but in my pool it works great.
