Question of 'best' process for the weekly maintenance use of AC... should the filter remain in place during the 15-30 minute cycle? Or is it preferred to have the filter float in tub during the cycle?

Obviously rinse off after completion of cycle... and I have scheduled to deep clean every 3 months... and swap out when I do 6 month purge (I have 2 filters to allow for seamless swapping).

I am not exactly sure of what you are asking. When adding the small amount of Aqua Clarity on a weekly basis you leave the filters in place. No need to remove them. Plus, using the AC regularly you can go considerably longer prior to purging as the small amount of AC added weekly will clean your bio-gunk continuously. When you do purge you should see little to no biofilms. One ounce per 200 gallons weekly does the clarity and plumbing/jet cleaning. Depending on the gallon age of your hot tub and the amount of use it gets, you may be able to go 2-3 times as long before draining and refilling. Hope this helps you.

I've read some drop their filters in tub when run AC but would prefer keep in place.

You answered my question. Leave in place when run the treatment... And then I'll remove and rinse off. I take my FC level before AC and then SLAM afterwards. Measure CYA monthly with 30 target and only use dichlor to target and 10% chlorine thereafter (I keep my saltron at 3 hours and typically only add chlorine after bather load).

Using 1 ounce AC (250 gal tub)... Used full amount twice and had ridiculous amount of foam. Plan on 6 month purge. Tub is new as of Oct so haven't gotten to refill yet. Using AC since day 1. I did perform a purge/refill when first installed.

pH and alk remain fairly constant (also have 50 borax). Water is crystal clear.

When I am purging with AhhSome before a full water change, I remove the filters and put them into the tub itself.

For weekly AC treatment, just leave the filters in place. I rinse off my filters every so often, how often depends on bather load, the weather, and the time of the year (in the spring the trees drop a bunch of stuff in the tub, so I rinse the filters more). It got down to the single digits Fahrenheit last night. I'm not taking extra time to mess around with the hot tub, and it is not getting much use anyway, so I just add the AC and call it done. I do a full water change about 3-4 times a year. I have two sets of filters, and I do a full soak and clean of the filters (in Oxy Clean) with the water changes.

Hi, I just got a new to me hot tub. It’s an island spa Bahama Elite.
My question is on the initial start up. I ordered the aqua clarity package and I’m reading the information and it appears that I can just purge the spa with the aqua clarity and not use the ahh some. Is this recommended, or since I bought the ahh some should I just go ahead and do the purge with that?
The electrician will have the final hook up tomorrow, so then I will be able to do my purge and get my spa ready for it first use.
I look forward to any information you can provide thank you

@Ahhsomeguy will be best to reply. But you don't need both. Use the Aqua clarity for the purge and weekly maintenance.

Are you planning on filling, purge, drain, and refill? Most will agree this is proper on first use with new tub. The crud that will come out from the manufacture process is incredible.

If I had both products, I'd use the Ahh some for the initial purge and the Aqua clarity for maintenance moving forward.
You may decide to purge a few times based on what you see during/after the initial purge and/or how well the previous owner cared for the unit.

If you have already purchased the Ahhsome Gel Purge go ahead and use that to purge the filled hot tub.
Follow the instructions. It is easy to do. Typically, there is no need to refill and drain a second time after the initial purge unless you notice a heavy amount of brownish scum and foam that shows up after the refill. Once the tub's plumbing has been cleaned you begin the AquaClarity weekly regimen. Mix the "AC" in an acceptable gallon container with 122 ounces of water to fill it up. Add 1 ounce of AquaClarity every week or so for every 200-225 gallons of water in the hot tub. Be sure to use an approved sanitizer such as chlorine or bromine, chlorine is my choice. We now manufacture a "ready to use" version of the AquaClarity in a 32 ounce bottle. It is sold under our Ahhsome brand. If you follow the instructions on the weekly maintenance protocol and always have sufficient sanitizer in the water, your hot tub water will glisten every day. This is the easiest and least expensive way to maintain healthy hot tub water.

I have both and purge with ahhsome. Initial purge at full dosage for your size hot tub. No need to drain for subsequent purges. Let the tub sit for a while, I do a half hour to an hour, use a half dose and run the jets again. Continue until purges run clean. You may notice that sometimes in the first week some leftovers come out using the AC. Clean that up right away it will harden on the shell and be a bugger to get off. Filter floating for the first purge and rinse when it's done.

Can't say I agree with not draining after any purge. I wouldn't want any cleared biofilm floating in tub. The extra 30 minutes to refill tub will save hours of headaches fighting potential chemical imbalances. Plus with the Aqua Clarity purge/drain/refill/maintenance on my new tub (from October), I have very little foaming on weekly treatment and I rarely have to adjust chemistry (chlorine after bather load and maybe once month add minuscule amount of muriatic acid). Full transparency, I haven't gotten to the 6 month mark for my next purge, but will drain after completion. Six months of 'people soup' water is long enough to have fresh fill.

Or is the intent of your comment for multiple purges? That I can understand... Purge/drain/refill/add'l purge(s)/maintenance. But, this is just me, if there is still heavy film/scum upon refill I'm going to purge/drain/refill.

My question... filter floating during first purge... or any purge?

Yes. With multiple purges, keep the water and add a half dose of ahhsome to continue. Keep scooping the crud off the foam and eventually the foam will be clean. That's where you dump and refill.

Float the filter when there is heavy crud. If you keep up with the purges, they can stay in place. If you get out of the habit and start back up down the road, then float them.

Or if I saw crud building up when I wasn't expecting, I'd pop the filter and then continue.
