I know its July but I'm a planner. I've searched and it seems most advice on winter covers is just go cheap and be glad to get 1 or 2 seasons out of the cover. Its been several years since I bought a winter cover and it seems the reveiws are all over the place. I'm thinking about buying 2 cheaper covers and layering them in hopes the top will protect the bottom. I'm in southern WV and winter here can vary from mild to nothing to Mother Nature syaing "Here hold my beer." It's insane but true temps could be -18 without the wind chill or a milder 10 degrees, snow could fall in feet or a couple of inches. I really want to keep my pool as clean as possible so opening will go smoothly. I do have a leaf net I plan to use until the leaves had all fallen, then I'll remove it and the leaf goop. I don't plan to lower the water, just plug the hose holes/close the valves and let the winter covers rest on top of the water, which will be to the top.
Any thoughts on double layering a cheap cover?

I've never done a double layer but I use the Arctic Armor pool covers and they are decent. I've been using them for years and they typically last about 3 seasons and for at least my size pool (24 feet) they are cheap ordering them from Home Depot.

I will say that their quality may have gone down somewhat over the years but they do stand behind their warranty. In all the years I've bought them I've had 2 issues with the latest being this year. I buy the 12 year cover and it comes with a 2 year full warranty. I opened my pool very late this year and we had a wind storm come through, it shredded an area of the cover and I contacted them with photos. They asked for proof of purchase and they sent me a new cover. They did charge me $25 shipping but that was stipulated on the warranty card. I originally paid under $100 and then paid $25 so if I get 2 or 3 years out of this cover it was worth it IMO.

Thank you. I checked Home Depot but don't see that brand. I have found the 10 year & 12 year Artic Armour via google at a few places online though. It looks like a 16ft round pool is not a popular shape, thanks Intex, lol. They have 15t and 18ft, I think I'll go with a 18ft cover so if I decide to use the ladder or a couple floats to raise the center I'll have plenty of cover.

Sorry, it may be under the name Blue Wave which owns the name Arctic Armor.

Ahhh. I'm thinking this one for just under $80. Sadly the quality of everything has gone down but the price has always gone up.
Blue Wave 15-Year 18 ft. Round Royal Blue Above Ground Winter Pool Cover BWC904 - The Home Depot
It looks like you have a few options: From Home Depot - Blue Wave 15-Year 15/16 ft. Round Royal Blue Above Ground Winter Pool Cover BWC901 - The Home Depot

There's a $32 option along with the $73 option ... even a $24 but it may be too cheap.

From Walmart: Robot or human?

I believe this is what I have.

And Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=16+foot+...und+winter+cover,lawngarden,68&ref=nb_sb_noss

Another manufacture could be just as good or better (or worse) than my recommendation!

I ended up ordered the 15ft cover. I figure it will still have 3ft drop but the 18ft would be swimming around the pool way to long. Lol.
Thank you!! I end up down the rabbit hole of reviews so it’s 100x easier to read & ask opinions here. If I get 2-3 years out of it I’ll be happy.

the rabbit hole of reviews
I find that SO many of them aren't even about whatever I'm looking at. It's either another product from the same manufacturer, or the same product from a different manufacturer.

Many times I also spot the reviewer expecting too much and leaving a terrible review because of it. Or misusing the XYZ and being disappointed.

I put almost no faith in Amazon reviews. If I read any, it's probably just for lols.

Keep us posted !! Folks are always asking about covers and your search will help others. :)

I like it when reviewers rate the product poorly because of shipping. Yes, the product is a 1 because it arrived 3 days late ... next time try to find it locally!

That’s hilarious and spot on. Some reviews were talking about bows 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ll definitely keep you guys updated. I went ahead and ordered before everything goes out of stock or the price sky rockets in the fall. I’m hoping to close as late as I can, this is my first year following TFP.

😂😂 I actually read one of those today! This lady was mad because her cover took 4 days to ship, so she gave it 2 stars and then said she hadn’t used the cover yet. Huh? How does that make sense?
