Is there any problem with SLAMMING your pool each time you add chlorine, to reduce the frequency that it has to be added?

    Chlorine Max for Swimming

During the winter there are very few times when anyone swims in our pool. When I add chemicals in the winter, I add enough chlorine to get my pool up to slam levels so I won't have to add chemicals again for 10 days or so. Anyway, I was just wondering what the maximum FC level would be for...

Plaster Stains -- one last try

Thank you all for your help over the past year. I now have perfectly balanced and sanitized water. I'm very happy with that, but there is one problem that vexes me: these weird stains that keep popping up on my beautiful white, one-year-old plaster (see the attached photos). The stains in the...

    Rollercoaster pH

Happy Thanksgiving, pool owners. Recently, my PH has been jumping up and down, even during a 24-hour period. Currently I've been adding chlorine and acid every 6 days. When I do, I usually target a pH of 7.8 because no one is currently using the pool and I find that it gets my LSI close to zero...

    Small Stains on Steps

Thanks to you all, I feel like I have mastered the chemistry of keeping my pool clear and clean, but these tiny stains are really driving me crazy. As you can see in the photo there are four small stains. I just put a vitamin C tablet on stain number one and placed a small weight on top of that...

How much FC is too much?

My pool CYA is at 45 ppm. According to "trouble-free pool recommended FC levels" (Free Chlorine and Cyanuric Acid Relationship Explained) I'm supposed to maintain at least 6 ppm FC. Now, on a sunny day, I lose about 3 ppm FC. Therefore, when adding chlorine every other day, my target FC is 6 + 3...

    Reddit

I just posted this in Reddit, "I live in sunny Southern California and have to target 9.5 PPM chlorine every night just in order to keep pouring level above for PPM the next day. So I'm losing about 5.5 PPM per day. And for a 14,700 gallon pool, that adds up to more than 1/2 a gallon of...

    Stains on new plaster

We had the pool replastered about seven months ago. Since then I have noticed at least four or five of these odd, gray-colored stains appear on my new plaster. It's quite discouraging. I found an old thread where somebody speculated it might be copper that created some sort of gray copper...

    Contradictory Information

I have read in several places online that it is important to maintain a minimum three ppm free chlorine in order to prevent algae. However, I recently typed "30 ppm of CYA" into your chlorine calculator and it recommended a minimum of 2 ppm free chlorine. Why would you guys recommend less than...

    So...So Much Chlorine

I am careful to keep my LSI close to zero and follow the guidelines here, but it seems as though I am using a tremendous amount of chlorine. So much chlorine, in fact, that I have to add it every night. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. The chlorine chart here recommended a max FC of...

    SLAMing Questions

I really appreciate all the information on your website, but I'm struggling to put it all together. I just want to know the correct technique for SLAMing my pool, but it seems like the information is spread over multiple web pages, a little bit here a little bit there. At this point I have about...

Non-chlorine Shock Made My Water Worse!

I had a very weird chemical experience today and I can't make any sense of it. I would appreciate any help you guys can offer. I tested by water at Leslie's at 11 o'clock this morning and they said my FC was 4.0, and CC was 4.53. Their computer recommended non-chlorine MPS shock, which I...

My newly re-plastered pool has two black spots on the bottom

I'm concerned that the two black spots on the bottom of my pool might be black algae. From what I've read, this type of algae is very difficult to eliminate. I am new to pool maintenance but I'm learning quickly. Is there some reliable way for me to diagnose if it's black algae or something else?

    Foggy Pressure Guage

As you can see, my pressure gauge is very foggy and difficult to read. Can anyone recommend the best way to clear it up? If not, can you point me in the direction of where I can buy a replacement gauge for my Pentair filter?
