Hello, I am totally new to pool ownership and am eager to learn. We have a 28k gal. SWG pool and I’d like to get off to the correct start. We are working with a local pool company and have purchased all the required chemicals. Have one “pool school” under my belt but still realize I have a lot to learn. Pool was just opened and It looks really clear/clean. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. Cheers, Wolf

Welcome to TFP Wolf!!

My first, and best recommendation is to get a proper test kit. Link-->Test Kits Compared
Pool Store testing is notoriously wrong. As a result, we need results from your test kit to give you help. Why? Because the store testing is inaccurate and we can do more harm than good. A proper test kit will save you LOTS of money in the long run (and even the short run...ask me why my name on TFP is PoolStored)...

have purchased all the required chemicals
Which "required chemicals...?
Might spin through these...AFTER you go through pool care basics link that Marty provided.

Welcome! Do some research before you purchase anything else. If you have the time, do some very extensive research. We just had our pool installed over winter and I shelled out hundreds of dollars in chemicals that do not follow the TFP methodology which have rendered them nearly useless. You have a SWG so that helps. I am stuck going through gallons of LC per week at the moment until I can come up with a more permanent and sustainable solution. Good luck to you.

Wolf,

My guess it that at least half of your "Required Chemicals" are not needed at all..

The TFP pool care process is not at all like what your Pool Builder's process will be..

I suggest that you politely listen to what he says chemicals... and then just forget it all.. :)

Thanks,

Jim R.
