Pool Cover Recommendations

That's the life span of these. The thicker ones don't necessarily last longer but it may seem that way because they get used less. So you ask how so? Because they're heavy and clumsy do they get used less.

My last one lasted 2 years. It is kept on the pool 24x7. When I reel it, I cover it with white plastic so it does not get heated by the sun degrading it.

I can get 3 to 4 years out of mine but that's because it's not outside in the sun for a long time during the year. I use the solar cover during the months of April and May and then in September and part of October. During the summer, it's on its reel in the crawlspace under my house.

I always buy the cheapest and lightest one I can find. It's only going to last 2 years, and I find the lighter ones retain heat just as well as the heavier ones, but are much easier to roll up and take off.

I usually get 3-4 years out of a 12 mil (heavier than most) cover. A couple of things to consider to get a longer life out of thinner ones:
1) As pool stored and hombrewale mentioned, when not in use it should be covered or in the shade to prevent heat deterioration.
2) Do not use the cover when your FC is higher than 7-8 ppm.
3) Rinse it off before storing.

It's like they’re more of a "look but don’t touch" kind of deal.It makes sense. Inspired by your idea, I’m also thinking of buying a cheaper pool cover.
