Recommendations Needed for Pool Equipment Replacement and Upgrades

Hi,

I am looking to replace most of my pool equipment and pool pipelines. (Images attached) The reasons for this are:

  1. Aging Equipment: The current pool equipment is quite old and not functioning properly.
  2. Paver Redo: I am redoing the pavers and want to change the pipes for longer lifespan. I also noticed one jet not working when I purchased the house.

Current Setup:

  • Approximately 21,000 gallons of pool water
  • New vinyl liner installed last year (previous liner was ripped)
  • Pool has two spa seats
  • Deepest end is 8 ft
  • S244T Hayward sand filter
  • Hayward 1 HP Pump
  • Old heat pump (stopped working this year, buttons don't work, automatically turns on when the breaker is on. Manufacturer (aquacal.com) says it's a legacy model made for Sears. No manual or parts available for repair.)
  • What I am Looking For: I want a setup that requires minimal time for management, is durable, and dependable. I would appreciate recommendations on new equipment:

1.Sand Filter:

  • Should I replace the entire sand filter or is replacing the sand enough? I had a leak to the waste line last week, so I replaced the filter handle assembly and deep-cleaned the sand. Is a cartridge filter recommended instead?
2.Variable Speed Pump:

  • The pool equipment is beside two bedrooms, and sometimes I run the pump at night to take advantage of off-peak electric rates. The 1 HP pump noise is bearable, but the primary noise is from the pipes rattling. When I hold the pipe tightly, the rattling stops. I might use the old 1 hp pump to turn it into a portable pool vacuum.
  • I believe a variable speed pump may reduce noise. Any recommended models or brands?
3.Heat Pump:

  • I need a new heat pump. Any recommended brands or models? I have young children and would like to maintain a temperature around 85 degrees. I live in the Northeast. Pool season is from late May to mid September
4.Salt Water Chlorine Generator:

  • I would like to add a saltwater chlorine generator to save on liquid chlorine. Any recommendations?
5.Smart WiFi Equipment:

  • Are there any smart WiFi devices I can install to control the pump and heater from my phone?
6.Pool Pipes:

  • Any recommended brands for pool pipes? I want to ensure long-lasting enjoyment of the pool. I will also ensure the installation company uses unions for easy adjustments.
Your input is greatly appreciated. If you have any additional advice, please let me know.

Thank you all!

What is in the panel in front of the HP with the Sun Design Pools label on it?

Open the front and show us a picture.

How do you chlorinate your pool?

What does the red circled valve do?

What is the green pipe for and the green box thing?

How do you chlorinate your pool?

- Normally it's 2-3 bottles of liquid chlorine every week.

What does the red circled valve do?
What is the green pipe for and the green box thing?

- When I first opened the pool, I hired the same maintenance person who had worked for the previous owner. He mentioned that the green circled thing was related to a certain chemical, but since it was no longer in use, he told me to disregard it. He left the valve handle in a specific position, and I've kept it that way ever since.

  • Replace your timer/CB panel with a Pentair IntelliCenter
  • Install a Pentair GFCI CB for the pump
  • Pentair Intelliflo3 pump with display
  • Pentair UltraTemp HP or Aquacal
  • Pentair Intellichlor SWG with IC60 cell
You going to DIY the install or use an installer?

I am going to use an installer

Your installer sell Pentair, Hayward, or Jandy? He will try and steer you towards what he knows and can make the most money on.

Pentair sells the IntelliCenter in a bundle at a discount compared to buying the individual components you need. The bundle contains the IntelliCenter, integrated Intellichlor Power Center, IC40 cell but some will replace it with an IC60 for an upcharge, wireless link, and two IntelliValves which if you don't need you can sell.

If you buy a pump, filter, and other Pentair products on the same invoice you can get an extended 3 year warranty on all equipment you buy. That may be a reason to get a CCP420 cartridge filter.

Select Bundled Products: applies to purchases and qualified installation of a minimum of a pump and filter, and one or more of the following: heaters, heat pumps, control systems, automatic cleaners, lighting, salt chlorine generators or UV sterilizer

I can tell you what I would get and you need to talk to local installers about what they will sell you.
