Doheny Pump vs Pentair Pump

I'm considering these two pumps and would appreciate some knowledgeable input:

Doheny's Pool Pro Variable Speed Inground Swimming Pool Pump | 3.0 HP VS Pump, 230V, Self-Priming, Max Flow 131 GPM | 2 Inch Internally Threaded | Programmable Timer | Hard-wired

Pentair EC-011057 - IntelliFlo VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pool Pump 3HP

I understand Doheny is a bargain brand but price is obviously a factor for me. I would just like to know if going with the Doheny is a big mistake or if it can hold it's own against the Pentair? My pool is 14k gallons with a fountain and an attached spa. I have an automated pool with a Pentair Compool control board that I operate through an app on my smartphone. Other than sticking with the same brand for compatibility, any other major reason not to give the Doheny a try? I've read pretty decent reviews but the price seems too good to be true. What's the life expectancy on a Doheny pump in SW Florida running year round? Thanks in advance.

The big 3 have priced me out as a customer. Quality control is in the tank across industries and I'd rather buy 3 of the generic pumps than 1 of the flagship pumps. Statistically speaking, the 1st generic pump would go the distance. The Calimar 3HP has many members with no issues and they stepped in quickly for the few who did have issues. It is my current go to if my Pentair dies tomorrow.

Years ago my buddy took one look at the wattage readout of my Pentair pump and ran out and bought a comically generic clone. We have a supplier here who sells similar stuff with no labels whatsoever. I was convinced my buddy was an idiot spending still good money on something so generic. Several years later when it was still going strong, my thoughts on who the idiot was reversed.

I moved and built a new pool during the shortages and stuck with Pentair mostly because I was worried smaller companies would be out of business if I had issues. I would not do the same tomorrow.

Buy once cry once has become cry no matter what you buy IMO.

Do not get a SVRS pump. Never. Ever.

There are Pentair Intelliflo3 models without SVRS. They have to give away the SVRS model to get rid of them.

Dohney pumps are made by Hayward. If you don’t care about automation compatibility it should move water fine.

Thank you. I've never owned a variable speed pump. They're programable directly on the pump correct? So I don't really need automation compatibility? Just program it and forget it?

Do you have automation? If not, it doesn't matter as the programming is all on the pump. If you do, you won't like having to go to the pad to start the pump for a water feature or a spa. You have to go twice, once on and once off.

Tell us about your pool and equipment. Easiest way is to create your signature with details of your pool and equipment.

I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. My current setup has a Pentair Compool wall panel which I can control pump on/off, spa on/off, pool/spa temperature, blower, and lights with their smartphone app. Currently the pump is set on a daily timer to turn on and off. If I were to purchase the Doheny pump I would think I can still control all of those same things with the app? The only difference would be that I couldn't switch between the variable pump speeds using the app? For the variable speed control, I could just set them on a timer directly on the pump and forget about it. Is that correct? Thank you.

Not discontinued. But Pentair has started to switch to only store front sales (not on line) unless they put an EC number on it, and raise the price.

For instance, the link to the pump, is to a store front in Las Vegas. You can drive to Vegas and buy the pump at the store.

Does not have the touch screen if you want that

The touch screen can be added. It just costs about $100 more if bought separately. Given the scarcity I would get them separately if necessary.

I did that as year when a customer was down and needed the pump, I ordered it complete only to get a follow up email a day later saying it's on backorder. I politely requested they sell me the touchscreen separately and adjust the price as when it's bought as one unit and they did. The install of the touchscreen is a no brainer.
