Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster.

We currently have an older Hayward panel and pump and the pump is dying.

The pool store here loves Jandy and is suggesting we either:
1. replace everything over to Jandy which is honestly outside our current budget.
2. keep in the Hayward system and just replace the pump.

Is there really so many downsides to staying with Hayward that it would justify spending double to change over to Jandy? I know the panel is old.... but it still works.... and if we stayed with Hayward, it would help us spread out the costs. He sold us on Jandy until we heard how much it would be.... Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Stay with Hayward or move to Pentair. Never Jandy.

I don’t know what he sold you on Jandy but he is a good salesman and makes more selling Jandy. That does not mean it is best for you.

Ask him why the Aqualink cannot get over the air software updates. Or why the Aqualink cannot be programmed from its outdoor control panel.

How old and what model is the Hayward system? What pump are you looking at? If you keep the Hayward control you will need to get a Hayward pump for direct communication. How much control do you need over the system? What is your budget?

+1 to disadvantages of Jandy. Expensive. Poor DIY support. Minimal, inconvenient updates that cost $$$. Archaic software. I inherited mine with the house. Would not go that way for a new installation, though it does do the job.

apologies. the last 24 hours have been crazy! You guys are so awesome for taking the time to answer my questions. The panel is a Goldline Hayward Aqua Plus, which if I am reading the serial number correctly, it was made in 2017. The sad dying pump is a Pentair WFE-28, 2.0 HP. If we stay with Hayward, the pool guy is recommending a Hayward Tristar 950 VS Pump for $2,200. Budget..... Well, we just had to replace windows so....

I am not sure what you mean about how much control. We have a waterfall and a light. and we live in Texas -where its lava hot most of the year and then frozen a few days a year.

dang it! I was falling for it. Thankfully a little bell went off in my head and I thought to ask here. thank you! Thank goodness, because we couldn't really justify the cost.

If your AquaPlus suits your needs then get the Hayward Tristar 950 VS Pump for $2,200. It is a good pump.

When you want to replace your AquaPlus look at the Hayward OmniPL upgrade…

you guys rock. I was seriously fretting about this. THANK YOU.
Note that the Aqua Plus has no provision for controlling a VSP so won't communicate with a TriStar 950 VS. It will turn a Tri Star XE (+/- $1300.00) on and off with a relay and allow its internal programming to function. You could do something similar by installing a Century EVQ 225 motor (+/-$600.00), new shaft seal and body gasket to your existing pump for even less. Be sure the Century motor comes with Century Connect, the newer ones do. It should be on the box. This will allow it to be used to directly communicate with a newer automation and speeds can be set there.

So, I guess I need to fire this pool guy. Thank you so much for this.
