Hi All - new member first post - any thoughts on 6’ or 8’ diving board? Pool will be saltwater 18’x36’ with 10’ deep end.

Looking back, growing up it seemed like all my friends pools were deep and had a springy diving board. That’s definitely something I want to replicate. Seems like a lot of what I’m reading people have only an 8’ or 8.5’ deep end. Which may have been the case back when I was a kid, but nostalgia wants me to remember deeper.

Anyhow, would prefer a 6’ springy board rather than 8’. Thoughts either way?

I got the 8' version of this diving board https://www.srsmith.com/media/178767/06-740.pdf for my 8' deep pool. It has a little bounce to it, but it's not a true spring board. I went with the 8' because you'll get a little more bounce than the 6'.

I think I read somewhere in this 2018 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING POOL AND SPA CODE (ISPSC) | ICC DIGITAL CODES that an actual spring board needs a minimum depth of 12'.

You can make the whole thing 10' deep.

If B is 10’ and D is 3.5”, then X is 6.5’.

Y = 3X (Minimum).

If X is 6.5 feet, then Y has to be 19.5 feet.

The diving envelope has to be big enough as described in the below reference for the diving board type you want to use.

Your slope will still be too steep.

Your numbers do not work.
Assuming AB is at least 8’, the slope works out? Another solution to ease the slope would be to make the shallow end a tad deeper or the deep end a tad shallower. My deep end is 9.5’, maybe 9’ measuring from the waterline.

WA + AB + BD + DE = Total Length.

If WA is 2' and AB is 8' and BD is 19.5' and DE is 8', then the total length is 37.5'

I would recommend a 20 x 40 pool if you really want a 10' deep pool.

WA on my pool is zero (or maybe a couple inches for a radius) so he could technically get it if they make that wall vertical. But yea it’s tight.

Hi All - circling back…….I’m not sure if I had talked about what we ended up doing in another thread, so I’ll restate it here.

We went with our own pool design, 8’ S. R. Smith blue TrueTread board which has lots of bounce, and have a wide and long diving well.

Shallow end is 10’ long, slope is pretty steep maybe only 11’ or 12’, the bottom is flat roughly 14’ or 15’ long and 14’ wide.

We have a 1’ safety ledge around the deep end and on both sides of the slope back to where it meets the shallow.

The side and back walls are virtually straight up and down, meaning from the safety ledge they go basically straight down to the bottom, there might be a 1’ angle in. So think of a big open square in the deep end.

I’ll try to post some pics, but I’ve tried before and my phone says the file is too big. Maybe I’ll try posting from by computer.

Anyhow, the board hangs over the pool edge about 20” or 22”.

I’ve dived out extremely far and deep and never come close to coming in contact with the floor or slope. I thought a lot about this very action before building and it worked out to what I envisioned.

The ANSI handbook that has the recommended parameters are for pools that have more angled walls so you don’t come in contact when diving. So any pool authority will say that we don’t have a diving pool. While in reality, it’s everything you’d want a diving pool to be.

Just tried to upload a pic from my camera roll and it says the file is too big.

Uploaded pics to computer then uploaded from my computer.
I may have some duplicates in there not sure, I'm not the most tech savvy person.

The green is all synthetic grass from Home Depot, the Fescue Multipurpose.

I'll post a pic of the equipment pad next time I'm out there to take a pic.

We have a Loop Loc super dense mesh winter cover that we're putting on next week, so I'll post a pic in case anyone is interested in them.
