Hey Everyone,

We relocated from DC to Florida and purchased a home with a roughly 10-11,000 gallon in ground pool (not salt and not heated). Everything with the pool was redone or is new as of 2018.

I’ve spent a ton of time reading this site after we went to pinch a penny and found out the prior owner must have stopped paying for a pool person once the house was under contract since there was no chlorine in the water and all the chemicals levels were low.

Excited to enjoy this pool as summer gets hot and happy to have stumbled on this site and forum as a great resource!

Welcome to the forum!

I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.
Thanks for welcoming me! I’ve read that page and everything else I can find on the site. Based on recommendations here we invested in a dolphin robotic cleaner since our pool is not caged or covered.

Through my own testing we’ve got all the chemicals to their proper levels which wasn’t as bad as expected.

If anyone else is in Florida I’ve quickly learned about wild life here. We have tree frogs that have visited and laid hundreds of eggs after rain storms and lately have had gnats in our pool. I’m currently researching pole skimmers with a fine net because our leaf skimmer isn’t capturing these gnats!

Try using a "skimmer sock" to catch the gnats. You can buy a package of 3 or so at Pinch-a-Penny for around $5. I would not leave that sock on though once you've captured the little pests!
