Just discovered my pump was losing prime, and after investigation, discovered there's an ever so slight leak from the plumbing at the pump outlet. This may or may not be related to the freeze we just had. I really don't think anything froze - we never lost power, and I had the equipment tarped and has the pump running all times it was below freezing. So it could've just been there already and I hadn't noticed. But, it doesn't really matter! Either way, I need to fix it.

Pretty hard to get a good picture, but it's coming from the seam between PVC and pump. Before I tear the plumbing apart, I'm wondering if anyone can give me an inkling of what to expect. Is that a threaded PVC coupling that screws onto a male threaded outlet on the pump? Or should I expect it to be glued on? If it's glued, how to I get it off without damage?

While I'm at it, should I put a union in? If so where's the optimal place?

Lots of questions, but thanks for any insight!

Even with all those pics, I can't quite tell if the leak originates from the volute body where the ribbed outlet is, or is tucked away at the clamp (seal plate) O-ring. I don't really see if coming from the PVC, but maybe. The seal plate O-ring would be ideal so that you don't have to mess with plumbing. Just unscrew the clamp band, pull back the motor, and replace the O-ring. I will say that it appears that pump is being discontinued, plus it's a single speed which is very inefficient. So if it's not economical to repair, you might consider replacing to a more efficient pump. But totally your call depending on where the leak is.

If you find it is the PVC, then yes, you'll need to cut somewhere along the vertical pipe so that you can unscrew the pipe from the pump outlet. Installing a union would be ideal for future repairs.
