Our pool pump is gradually loosing prime over time.
The equipment:
Pool is a 14x28’ in-ground pool with two suction lines feeding the pump, one from the skimmer, one from the bottom drain. The suction lines each have their own valve and come together about 24” before the pump. All plumbing is 1 ½” schedule 40 PVC. Pump is a Pentair 342001 Superflow variable speed unit, couple of years old.
What I have done so far:
- Ran the system with the skimmer valved off, still lost prime. Believe this exonerates the piping to the skimmer
- Ran the system with bottom drain valved off, still lost prime. Believe this exonerates the piping to the bottom drain
- Opened the pump pot, cleaned both sealing surfaces, lubed both sealing surfaces with silicon grease and installed a new freshly lubed O-ring. Removed, lubed and reinstalled the drain plugs on the pump volute. This seems to have slowed the rate at which we loose prime, but it suddenly happened again last night
I am running out of ideas, any suggestions as to how to trouble shoot this?
