    Wavy line on pool surface

Notice my skimmer is forming a current, pushing water and debris away from it. In turn it is creating that wavy line in the water I was referring to. To note, my return jet is at the opposite side pointing directly at the skimmer so I’d think that would force debris into it.

    Wavy line on pool surface

I spoke too soon and it’s actually back. I thought I resolved it by playing with the eyeball return jets, but seems to still form right around the skimmers. Wonder if there’s some sort of current coming from the skimmer when meeting with the current from returns that’s causing it to form.

    Wavy line on pool surface

I played around with them and I think it went away. Something so simple thanks! I thought that it might have been some sort of oil substance but wouldn’t have made sense since it’s only visible when the pump was on.

    Wavy line on pool surface

Return jets are pointed down at roughly 45 degrees, to the point the surface water doesn’t move, but yes the jets are pointed in that direction.

    Wavy line on pool surface

Just opened pool and noticing a wavy line that forms on the surface from one end to the other only when the pump is running. This is the first time seeing this. Hard to tell from the pictures but any idea what it is and how I get rid of it?

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

I went and tested at the pool store and it shows my CYA level is 106 and that’s within range of 30-200ppm per the Bioguard test. I’m wondering why everywhere else on the internet says CYA should be 30-50ppm.

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

Pool is now opened and CYA is already high. Whats your thoughts on this process. Turn off the automatic chlorinator and start using Bioguard Chlorinating liquid weekly, and then my cal-hypo granular shock bi weekly. Test levels weekly and turn on automatic chlorinator with stabilized chlorine as...

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

Once I get to the target CYA, would it be ok to turn off the automatic chlorinator and then stick cal hypo tablets in the skimmer baskets? I’ve read you should never stick trichlor tablets in the skimmers, but cal hypo tablets aren’t a problem. Just want your thoughts

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

Sheesh I dodged a major bullet thank you! What about if I continue to use tricolor in the automated chlorinator but keep it at the lowest setting, and then put cal-hypo shock directly into the pool on a bi-weekly basis. Do you think this is a safe option to try and maintain reasonable CYA levels?

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

Thanks for the info. If trichlor tablets are fully dissolved and the chlorinator is empty, what happens if I add Cal Hypo pucks, specifically Poolife NST Prime Tablets?

Opening Pool - Stabilized and Unstabilized Chlorine

Opening our pool for the summer this week. Can I use stabilized chlorine tablets first to get my CYA up to 30-50ppm in my automated chlorinator, and then use non stabilized chlorine tablets once the stabilized ones are dissolved in the chlorinator? Or will this be bad for the pool if it’s made...

    Manual relief valve leaking

Can a bad air relief valve assembly cause the water level to drop in the pool pump strainer basket when the filter is off? I replaced both o rings on the air relief valve assembly, yet after about an hour when the filter is off, the water level in the strainer basket drops. I also replaced the...

Air Leak - Water level lowering in Pump Strainer

Now I’m noticing when I turn on the pump, after about 20 seconds of running when the water starts to flow thru the pump to filter and pressure gauge increases, water starts to leak out of the top of the manual air assembly for a little then stops. I’ve already replaced both o rings however it’s...

Air Leak - Water level lowering in Pump Strainer

When the pump turns on, it takes about 10 seconds for the water to start flowing thru the basket strainer from the suction lines. Can’t this potentially burn out the pool pump overtime if it does this day over day since the pump strainer isn’t full prior to the pump starting?

Air Leak - Water level lowering in Pump Strainer

Yes the pool pump does fill completely after priming. I will try lubing up gasket again although I am hesitant about loosening the Union nut as I don’t want to potentially cause a bigger problem / leak. I also saw your advice on another thread to use silicone sealant around the piping to the...

Air Leak - Water level lowering in Pump Strainer

I noticed recently that when my filter is turned off, after a few hours the water level drops about 3 inches in my pump strainer basket. While there is still water in the pump strainer, it is not completely full touching the clear strainer cap like it used to. This causes air bubbles for 1-2...
