Dolphin Sigma - So Far So Good (and Betta Solar)

Sigma has still been working well. It never gets stuck, and restarting via Wi-Fi is so convenient. I do prefer the basket filter over the cartridges, but short of that, the Sigma is great!

    Betta SE Plus

It depends on my water level. Mine is definitely not 8" deep unless maybe my pool is totally full. You'll be fine!

    Wybot Osprey 700

I have an Osprey Pro 700. I got it for free as I'm an Amazon Vine Reviewer. You can read the review here: Amazon.com V-Team is the handle, I put a video of it beaching itself. As a result, I have to program it to do floors only. The app is complete garbage, and while their support is super...

    Betta SE Plus

I just got the non-plus on Amazon, it was delivered on Friday. I'm not sure what the normal price was, but it was being advertised as a limited time price of like $328. Well worth it. I don't want another thing to charge, and my pool gets full sun. Yesterday was overcast, but it seemed to be...

Dolphin Sigma - So Far So Good (and Betta Solar)

I posted about my dying Prowler 920. After long debate, I ended up cashing in a ton of Amazon gift cards I had from work, and I took the chance on the Sigma. Ultimately, it had the combination of things I wanted. Ultra fine filters, Wi-Fi control, dual drive motors. The added year of warranty...

Pentair Prowler (Dolphin) 920 Robot Motor Being Weird (Video) - Is it time for a new robot?

I haven't figured out anything, I'll likely just buy a new one :(

Is there an ultra fine filter for these?

Pentair Prowler (Dolphin) 920 Robot Motor Being Weird (Video) - Is it time for a new robot?

My 4 year old Prowler 920 was really struggling after running for two days. After careful observation, I found it was just moving in little bursts and not really going anywhere. I did the self-test, and it just seems the motor isn't smooth, particularly in reverse. I made a video down below. At...

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

Awesome to hear you survived! As somehow, warm weather always precedes these blasts in Texas, if the forecast calls for 3+ days, I may opt to take the warm weather opportunity and heat prior to buy any buffer. I have good data from the last two cold blasts to see where things are. I do agree...

    Temporary pad shelters

I have just a simple metal roof on wood posts. I put hooks on them and wrap a tarp around those hooks. Not an air tight shelter by any regard, but keeps it dry and out of the wind chill.

Pentair Mastertemp 125 heater won't turn on.

It’s not well documented, but I believe MasterTemps have some sort of safety disable feature when water temps are cold. I believe they just completely shutdown if water temps are below 40. No panel, no response. I remember in Feb 2021, I made a last ditch effort to save the pool and the heater...

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

Brutal. We're hitting 72F today, small overnight freeze Friday night into Saturday morning. I just checked your forecast, you've got 2-3 more days of this. Ugh, I feel your pain.

    Freeze in North Texas

Backflow for your auto-fill? I shut mine off, leave the plunger in my pool open and then drain the RPZ/Backflow (takes 30 seconds).

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

We're starting to warm up and appear to be headed out of the woods. Yesterday, my water temp briefly hit a reported 34F before switching back to 35F once the sun came out. We hit 32.2F air temp for less than 10 minutes yesterday, removing that we will have spent ~80 hours below freezing. Last...

    Freeze in North Texas

I did exactly this yesterday as my water temperatures were getting nervously too low. I didn't want water sitting in pipes for 15 minutes at a time. For me, I just put both my 2-way valves into service and manually put them in the middle. I then monitored my spa, and I saw that it was slowly...

    Freeze in North Texas

When you said water was barely flowing, is that because the ice was getting too deep or that the water temp in the pump was so low it was starting to freeze? What was the reported temp of the water by the automation?

That's honestly exactly what I thought!

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

Ice hump is gone (although a small piece slid down into the pool and is floating (about the size of a popsicle). Pool is now reporting 35F, so clearly the sun is doing something as it's still only 24F air temp.

    Ice Ice....

Are those fountains that are freezing? What's your reported water temperature?

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

Yeah, it looks like some of the ice hump on the tile line has melted where it's getting sun. Dark blue glass likes the sun. We're still at 22F air temp and a light breeze, only about 20% of the pool is in full sun right now.

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

My pool isn't a good comparison. A friend of mine two blocks over told me his pool last night was 46F while mine was 38F. I'm sure he's still in the 40s. My pool is effectively above ground, and it's entirely northern facing and exposed to more wind that the typical backyard in-ground pool. That...

Advice on running pool heater for a day ahead of polar vortex

Yesterday, I was reporting 38F all day. The moment the sun went down it started to creep down, 37 before I was in bed. Woke up to pee around 2am, 36, and then at 5-6am when I woke up for good, 35F. It's holding their now. We've got sun finally. Due to last night's higher winds, I had some wind...
