Pre pool opening (white water mold)

Before I went SWG I did liquid chlorine for about 3 or 4 years. I had to have my CYA around 50-60 to keep my daily loss about 3-4 during the hottest part of the summer in full sun if I didn't have a solar cover on. I added my LC after the sun went down in the evening. I always dosed to about...

    FC and CC same

The powder is in the pro too. But it's literally just a tiny scoop of the powder. It's not any more difficult than the drops. It comes with very precise instructions too. You definitely want the speed stir though.

    Soft Water and Boric Acid

My borates are about 35ish. I was aiming for 40 but didn't quite get there and the 35 is enough to stop the SWG scaling for me so I called it good. My acid additions are about every 5 or 6 days vs. every 2 without.

What to do with Old Liquid Chlorine

I either throw it in the pool or use it for cleaning. Works great for toilets.

    Will my pool become salty?

You can use the "effects of adding..." calculator in pool math. 8 oz of 10% liquid chlorine adds about 3 ppm of salt to the water in your size pool. If you're adding that much every single week, it'll take you about 20+ years (starting from zero of course) to reach the salinity of my pool. And...

Big divergence between measured salt level and what the SWG reports

Was it generating when it was reporting 2100? BTW I started up my SWG today and it was reporting 2700 when my k1766 test gives me 3400.

Big divergence between measured salt level and what the SWG reports

I notice a bigger difference between the salt test and the onboard sensor when the water is cold. I haven't turned on my swg yet (about to do it today), but I expect to see it show a low level. In the summer when the water is 87 degrees it tends to get within a few hundred of my test results...

    Another dissolving CYA topic

I use skimmer socks and tie them to a bamboo plant stake and hang them in my skimmer (better water flow instead of just letting them sit in the basket). Go out and squeeze them every now and then. Took two or three hours when I did it the other day with 60 degree water. I let my pump run about...

    Cloudy Bubbles coming from jets

The SWG makes champagne bubbles when it's generating. It's normal.

I'm going to be interested in hearing about the longevity of this robot.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

Could you tie a piece of rope to the handle and the other end to a small piece of pool noodle or something? That way you can stand along the edge and as it crawls past you, you can yank it out. I doubt the small piece of noodle would interfere with the Betta.

    Ditching pool guy for DIY

My husband is color blind yet has an easier time than I differentiating between hues on the pH test. I haven't asked him about the others, but then again the others aren't as ambiguous IMO.

    White flakes

What kit? Do you mean to test for borates? I just used borate strips and pool math. Sneak up on your goal.

    White flakes

I'm voting for "just add borates now". I fought and fought with the flakes starting just a few days after installing my SWG last year. I lowered my CH. I lowered my TA (which I couldn't really keep low because fill water was higher). I was dosing with acid every other day. I couldn't keep up. It...

question on where to attach auto suction pool sweeper / main drain question

My only experience is with my current pool...But I do have a vacuum port. It looks a little different to yours in that it has a hinged cap on it. At the equipment pad I have a multi valve that I can balance the suction between that port and the skimmer. I have no control of the main drain at my...

    Calcium in T-Cell?

My new SWG started scaling and flaking off into the water (looked like a snow globe) within a couple days after installation. My numbers weren't horrible, but I ended up replacing some water to get CH down. It still did it. I tried to lower my TA, but couldn't maintain that because my fill water...

CircuPool SmartFlo® Variable Speed Pool Pump - 3.0 THP

I have the 2HP version of this pump and was having a problem with getting full prime. I checked every single union and drain plug. At one point I thought I had it figured out as I was able to get one of the unions tighter and it primed. But the air gradually built back up in the strainer pot. It...

Morton Pool Salt from Home Depot really messed up my pool

I'm in Sacramento area and bought and added 2 bags of the Morton's about a month ago. I didn't even think to cut it open and inspect; just dumped it in. It didn't take too long to dissolve (longer than last time, but water was pretty cold) but I did notice it had a few obvious pieces of debris...

    Borates Under 30ppm?

I'm using borates to prevent SWG scale (and the resulting snowflakes) and it seems to work just fine @ 40 ish. For all I know I'm higher though, I can't read the color on the strips very well.

New to Pools. Very High CYA

I'm a little late to this conversation. And I may have missed this, but did anyone mention to OP that when the FC is over 10 the pH test is inaccurate? I apologize if this has already been brought up.

Storing chemicals in extreme heat / sun

I store my muriatic acid in a black/yellow Costco tote, in my side yard. Year round. It gets a little sun, but like probably 80% shade because it's shoved up against a fence. It'll be fine.

Do I need to remove my SWG for winter months in Northern California?

Also here in the Sacramento area... I did remove mine (first year with it) for a couple of reasons: 1) I bought a dummy cell and wanted to use it. 2) I wanted to clean the cell, but it ended up not really needing it. 3) I figured since the dummy cell was now already in place I'll just leave it...
