Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

No, I don’t close early. First batch of chlorine and it’s already doing better. It will be hard to start a proper SLAM this evening, but I’ll hit it hard tomorrow and it should be fine by the end of the weekend. It may not pass the chlorine loss test but I’m sure it will look good by then.
That’s awesome. Are y’all getting the nice temperatures that we are getting in Ohio this weekend? Gonna be in the low 80s!

It’s late if you want the water to be crystal clear when you open. It’s too early to swim, but I’ll heat up the water and we’ll be in it around mid May.
no, I open mid may every year and my water is always crystal clear and blue. I've done that for 7 years, this is the first year I opened to green and I opened early (cover water got in, i knew it would be green)

Lies No GIF

That looks better than my pool mid-summer!! No worms or silt at all?!
The picture is what was vacuumed out from it but the water is crystal clear. So far every one of the pool openings with the winter mesh/stretch cover came out similar. Pools that are new to me this season are another story as I didn't close them so so were better then others. The tarped covered pools are all a ugly and disgusting because you can't possibly remove it with the water and debris even with a net on top still the sun had done it's number before you can get to it.

Hopefully the old owners no longer have a pool or will discover TFP!! 😆
I just saw your progress pic and that is AMAZING!!!! How was the CYA level when you first tested? I’m just curious. ☺️ It’s a beautiful pool and late congrats on the new house!!
Thank you!! So, funny you should ask about the cya. I slammed assuming zero. When tested initially I went all the way to the top and could clearly see the black dot with no cloudiness at all. So I added stabilizer to get to 30. Tested 4 days later and cya read 40. So apparently there was about 10 in there at opening.

Looking much better today. I’ll keep the chlorine level up for a couple days as I get some other things taken care of. Next step is to get the SWG working. Water temp is 61 degrees so I think it’s in range to work but it says it’s low on salt. So, probably put in some salt tomorrow after I test it to make sure it’s low. Happy with the progress so far.

Hey guys, everyone's pools look so good!! We just opened the pool for the very first time by ourselves after owning the pool for 20 years. Honestly it was easier than I thought it was going to be. The only problem was fan folding the winter cover, it's kinda a big clump now :giggle: Anyway, here's a pic of the pool. Looks good except for worms.Pool Opening May 2024.jpg

Finally peeled the cover off today!

It’s Robert’s maiden voyage of the season. 🤖🧹
I have been running the pool a couple hours a day with the cover on for a month.
YAY!!!!!! I’ve been waiting! Carlos’ maiden voyage EVER was quite funny. We didn’t put him in properly so I think he still had air (or something….I forget what a generous TPFer said) in him. Anyways, he did wheelies alllll the way across the pool. 😂😂😂 I’m like alright Carlos, CHILL. So we tried again by slowly putting him in upside down and he’s been hard at work lately! I need to buy the ultra-fine filter basket, though. We have so much silt and pollen junk from the trees around our house. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep the bottom of the liner completely clean and it’s driving me crazy lol. Perhaps I need to clean the cartridge, too? I don’t know.

Solar covers can be a pain but solar reels make them a lot more manageable. There are reels for above ground pools.
Are they expensive? Do you think it’s worth the extra cost? I’m also wondering if most leave their solar covers on while the pump is off? Or does it not matter? I may need to make a separate post about all my solar cover questions, LOL!

I heard they are a big ole pain in the booty.
Welp. They *are* a mega PITB. But oh so many continue to deal, because they work amazing to their capabilities. When you get a couple cooler days, the pool will have retained that little bit it would have lost, to help take the edge off.

But when it's 50 all week, the fact the pool is 55 instead of 49, is kinda moot, eventhough it still works then too.

They help alot for morning swimmers too, because the pool is already mostly what it was yesterday afternoon, having not lost 5 to 7 degrees overnight.

GO CARLOS!!!! It’s windy today and he sure likes to cause lots of water movement.

Random and off-topic, but I purchased a solar cover and am going to try it today for the first time. I heard they are a big ole pain in the booty. This shall be fun.
Yes, a pain for sure with the round shape. Don't buy the thickest one out there and understand from the get go it's a consumable and will need to be tossed after maybe 2 years.
