Hi,

I am looking for advice on changing over to the dichlor / bleach method that I see people here are successfully using.

I have a 317 gallon intext vinyal tub here in Japan. I have just set it up for its 4th season. This year however I want to change my sanitation method.

Access to supplies of hot tub ready made maintenance products is slim here, so I have been getting by with cal hypo 20g tablets in a floater. Also using Baking Soda and soda ash for TA and PH adjustments.

I want to switch to dichlor followed by bleach method. My question is, can I switch to using dichlor tablets straight after having used cal hypo tablets? Or do I need to start with a fresh refill?

Many thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Welcome to TFP.

Get a different floater for dichlor tablets. Never use the same floater for different tablets.

Otherwise chlorine is chlorine. Just begin using your dichlor floater and tablets.

Thank you Ajw22! Much appreciated.

I had read on other sites never to directly mix the two. So am I right in understanding that out of water mixing the two is dangerous, but inside the water mixing them is fine using a new floater? Do I need to wait until the original chlorine has dissipated?

Once in the water everything is safe. Being in a floater is not in the water and you need separate floaters, separate storage, etc.

Are you sure they are dichlor tablets?
Not trichlor?
Trichlor tablets tend to dissolve too rapidly in hot water so we don’t recommend that for hot tubs.
In the US dichlor is usually granular.
Feel free to upload a picture/ingredient list of the product.
Note* dichlor & trichlor are both quite acidic
Use PoolMath effects of adding to calculate their effects on ph,fc, & cya before using so you don’t tank your ph or increase cya too much.
