Zodiac MX6 Suction pool cleaner issues

First post here and brand new first time pool owner. This cleaner was included in our package, We have a beach entry in the pool that this cleaner likes to try and escape out of. Of course we lose suction as it grabs air and the pump goes dry. This is obviously very annoying and dangerous to the equipment. I have shortened the line so that it does not reach this area but then when it gets fully stretched the treads lift and the unit stalls again. I have a complaint call into the builder but not sure what they will do.

Looking for suggestions

Thanks

dental,

I can't help with your cleaner issue, but just wanted to say Welcome to TFP... A great place to be.. :lovetfp:

We have a pretty hard rule about "shunning", so I suspect your post just slipped through the cracks. This is a pretty slow time of the year, so a lot of members have gone to more "winter orientated" forums..

I really know nothing about your particular cleaner, but it does not seem like a cleaner issue to me. I would think that would be a normal problem that most cleaners would have with a beach entry.

Let's see if we get some additional feedback from some of our experts.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Jimrahbe is right... I haven't been around for a while. I have an MX8 and like it a lot. I'm not sure how to deal with a beach entrance to the pool. I'm not sure any suction side cleaner would work on a beach entrance. Your choices are to try and block it, shorten the hoses like you already have, etc. These are very good at climbing though so I doubt any of that will work...

Pressure side, or a robot are probably better choices here.

Welcome to TFP. These folks have helped me tremendously have a bit of patience.

Could you tether it to the far end, so it can do all but the beach entrance? Maybe a floating rope like a water ski rope tied part way up the hose? Just a thought to help get by for a while.

In addition to tethering the MX-6 at the far end and using a shorter hose, you might try reducing the suction just a bit to the port that powers the cleaner. With too much suction, our MX-6 also tries to "escape" by traveling up to the water line; then it sucks air as you described and sinks. You will probably need to experiment a bit with the suction settings to get it just right. Hopefully this combination of methods will do the trick for you.
