Will Overflowing Pool Harm Pump?

I am not at home and my pool is starting to over-flow from all the rain we're getting. My pump is scheduled to come on at 11am - will that much water in the pool cause problems? Do I need to try to get home and drain some water?

Thanks!

If your filter has a drain setting (bypass filter but drain water) you may want to consider that depending upon how you feel about the drainage around your pool. Erosion around a pool would be a big deal. If you have good drainage then not an issue. When I had pool installed I also installed hard piping to run all gutter drains to back of property (I have sloped back into woods so that works perfectly).

Just be sure your pool pump is not sitting in water when it turns on at 11 AM. A few years back we had almost 6" of rainfall in Phoenix within a few hours (extremely rare) and my yard and pool all became one large body of yuck which also left the pump about 1/3 submerged. I was able to shut off the breakers to the pool gear before the timer turned on and let it dry out a few days before applying power. The filtering and SLAM process was delayed but after about a week I got all the muck and debris out of the pool.
