When to refinish a marcite pool

I live in Florida with an in ground marcite finished pool. My question is when do you need to refinish it? Is refinishing just cosmetic or import for the health / life of the pool? I have areas that are pitted and several small areas that the underlying cement are visible. It was last redone about 15 years ago. It has been hard to find a company to give an estimate and they are backed up for months and it is expensive. If it is just cosmetic I would like to wait.

Doc,

I assume that marcite is what I call plaster.

Plaster is what makes the gunite shell watertight. It also makes the pool pretty and gives the gunite a smooth finish.

As long as you are not leaking a lot of water, then bad looking plaster is just a visual issue.

If it’s worn through to the finite, it’s ready to be replastered. If it’s not leaking, though, it’s primarily a cosmetic issue.
