What is "ultra-spa"?

My pool store tried selling something called ultra spa. They said it's was a water conditioner and it assisted the other chemicals in the hot tub but no where does it say what it actually is. Does anyone know what it actually is? Also I know it's not necessary but does it provide any benefits or is it just blue smelly snake oil?

From what I can see in a search SpaBoss Ultra Spa is a scented borate based water conditioner that softens water, clarifiers and enhances sanitizer efficiency.

  • Fragrences
  • Borates
  • Clarifier
  • Maybe salt or other water softener

None of which you need in your spa water.

no where does it say what it actually is
The ultimate red flag. Generally if it doesn't have anything worth putting on the label, then it doesn't have anything worth putting in your pool.

When the pool store tells you it "assists other chemicals" but can't tell you how it does it or what is in it that does it, that's a pretty good indicator that all they know about the product is how much money they make if they sell it to you.

Did you ask them what it was, why you need it and exactly what it is supposed to do?

Saying "water conditioner" and "assists other chemicals" is completely worthless.

How much did they want for this miraculous potion that they are trying to sell?

Get a bottle, write "Magic Potion" on it and then add in some salt and water. The next time you go to the store, tell them that you have some magic potion you want to sell them. It's only $99.95 per bottle and it will "assist" them with their business. It will "enhance" their energy and make them happy and successful.
